What an incredible yearly tradition and treasure I have the honor to pick up every summer! Getting to see last year's framed “art” has me excited to see this year's cover featuring the theme 'WE ARE', which I look forward to seeing in person in a few short weeks (hopefully), and then we'll proudly submit this one for critique by the October deadline and keep this tradition going.

The wait is over! Summer has officially begun for our yearbook students! Yesterday, the final pages of our 164-page masterpiece were submitted for printing, bringing Volume 35 of the Mustang Yearbook to life in 225 copies 📚.

This year was a monumental undertaking, as the students made a bold decision to revamp the book's layout mid-year to showcase a newly formed club, and in the process, they seized the opportunity to make some exciting section layout changes.

Despite the challenges and constraints of working within a set page limit, the Yearbook students rose to the occasion, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving skills, creativity, and dedication.

Through countless hours of planning, organizing, creating, producing, photographing, editing, and refining, these students have produced a truly exceptional yearbook that meets every goal they set out to achieve. Their perseverance and commitment to excellence shine through on every page.

Here's a sneak peek at the stunning front and back cover, complete with the WE ARE theme and graphic element of separate threads intertwining to become one solid stand that they felt perfectly captured the spirit of our school year.

We're eagerly anticipating its delivery in July, when it will be unveiled in its entirety on Back to School Night.

As yearbook students work to put the finishing touches on this year's book with capturing the last state photos, I'm spending my day logged in to Canva for a 2 week course for UAS 114 “Train the Teacher” through K-State Salina, so we can offer future RC Journalism / CTE Digital Media and Communication pathway students an opportunity to earn dual credit, gain certification, and take the first step towards becoming certified drone pilots, ultimately creating more possibilities for journalism students to become even stronger storytellers. I am excited to give RC Journalism students another tool to put in their media convergence toolbox.

We didn't capture a moment with Denise, our talented yearbook photographer, or Amani, our recently recruited broadcast camera operator, who seamlessly transitioned from working all morning at her job to come join our broadcast.

These dedicated students consistently go above and beyond, pouring their hearts into each production to create something truly special for their peers, families, and our Rock Creek community.

Challenges are inevitable, and despite many pre-production hours and meticulous planning, things don't always go as we expect. Yet, they persevere, embracing each new challenge with enthusiasm while growing and learning with every experience.
