We want to make available to those researching Saginaw’s history, whether students, scholars, or amateur genealogists, the diverse resources in our history collections. Local History and Genealogy staff work with people in any stage of genealogical research, assist with house histories, research the history of city fathers and businesses in the community, and help people connect with the past in any number of ways using the materials we have collected which are pertinent to local history. In recent years Hoyt Library has made important strides in LHG digital collection management. In 2012, we began to upgrade our growing Saginaw Images digital collection. Since that time, we have been working diligently to aquire new items. We have scanned County probate records, church records, photo and postcard collections, and various other collections of interest. We are committed to expanding our digital collections to include not only information on the history of Saginaw’s most prominent figures and the buildings they lived in and worked from, but also the everyday citizens who built Saginaw and lived here over nearly two centuries. We know that many of the important documents that can help people learn about the people’s history of Saginaw are held in private collections by those who may not even know the treasures that they own. These are the items that reflect the cultural history of a community. We know that history is rich in Saginaw and we want everyone else to know it too.
