Thinking about learning to draw?

Consider taking ART 300: Basic Drawing with with Ianna Frisby at the SCC outreach center in West Sac.

The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 am - 12:50 pm, starting 8/25.

Her drawing class needs about twice as many students for it to run this semester. If enrollment doesn't increase soon, the class may be cancelled, which would be a real tragedy since she is such a fun and dedicated teacher.

If you know anyone who's been thinking about taking a drawing class, we'd really appreciate it if you'd spread the word. Whether a complete beginner or someone whose been sketching for a while, all are welcome here. It can be surprising just how much you can improve you drawing skills with a course like this.

Well shucks, now I wish I would have taken a group of students over to sketch the Bee building.

In February of 1950, Professor John Matthew took his Sacramento City College art students over to R and 21st streets to sketch what remained of the 1888 Buffalo Brewery building before it was razed to build a sprawling new home for the Sacramento Bee. After closing for good in 2021, the Bee building was demolished last year. An active construction site yet again, condos have popped up, bringing new housing to the neighborhood. Seated upper right, we have Eva Puliz and James Eister. Below them, left to right, are Goro Kawamura, Joanne Birch, and Carolyn Creighton.

Who wants to learn how to design, plan, and paint a mural this semester? Interesting in learning more about the history of this unique art form? We've got just the thing...ART 330.

Just look at all the fun you could have, the friends you could make in this very hands on class. Imagine what we could do with mural #5!

This course has a recommended pre-req of ART 300 (drawing) and ART 320 (design), but we'll gladly take you as long as you are up to the task, willing to contribute your ideas, expand your skillset and are happy to hold a brush in some capacity or another.
