Comment PD for a yearlong PD scope and sequence that shifts the cognitive load back to students - where it belongs.

Comment PD for a yearlong PD scope and sequence full of differentiated strategies that teachers will actually find useful.

With all of the research telling us about the negative side affects related to tech in classrooms, it's hard to believe some districts are still investing in these technologies.

Watch talk about the current situation with Houston ISD and her very valid crashout at the amount of tech being used at every school - not just those transitioning to AI campuses (whatever that means). Wouldn't we rather have teachers teaching students than bots?!?

As someone who was trained in research-based strategies for 6 years as a teacher and has worked in education for over 15 years, creating authentic learning experiences for students is the best way to help children become strong, independent critical thinkers.

Comment DM for a yearlong PD scope and sequence!

Less tech and more teaching. Schools are finally moving away from tech thanks to all the bad press and all of the evidence showing us how bad it is for children. Now that we have those instructional minutes back we want to make sure teachers have the tools they need to create meaningful learning experiences for the students in their classrooms.

I love taking all of the strategy planning off the plates of teachers and administrators. You all have enough to do!

Who's doing the work in your class? Students or the teacher?

Shifting the cognitive load back to students takes work and time but it's totally doable. Reach out to learn more about how I help schools build systems to slowly shift the work and create confident teachers over time. This isn't one and done PD, it's a system that makes learning stick.

When students reflect, learning sticks.

Using any of these strategies (or others that provide space and time for processing during class) mean that students can grapple with new concepts, ask questions, get help and connect the dots before they leave the classroom. Those last 5 minutes are precious, so let's use them!

If you're school is ready for a yearlong PD support system, send me a message and let's talk about how I can take a whole lot of work off your plate.

Making collaboration work in a classroom isn't easy - it's a skill that takes time to teach to students. Here are 3 tips on making Pair-Share work for your students. And if it doesn't work the first time, keep trying! Your students deserve a class where they can talk about content to each other.

Teachers already know, but using paper and a pen (or a pencil) is WAY better if you want students to actually remember what they're writing down.
