Today's Featured Core: Good Manufacturing Practice Laboratory (also known as: GMP Lab)

UC Davis’ Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facility in Sacramento features six manufacturing rooms with ISO 7 (Class 10,000) multi-use cleanroom capabilities. It also offers an associated product Quality Control testing lab. Unique features include a GMP-grade FACS sorter, switchable positive-negative room pressurization for gene therapy vector manufacturing, and a hot cell for clinical grade PET reagent manufacturing. This state-of-the-art facility currently manufactures products for university investigators as well as other academic and industry partners.

The policy is designed to maximize utilization, encourage collaboration, support evolving research programs, and ensure research space is aligned with funding, growth, and institutional priorities.

UC Davis researchers have stripped down L*D to the base features responsible for its hallucinogenic and therapeutic effects.

In a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers whittled away at L*D’s core multi-ring structure and synthesized new, simplified versions of it to probe its functionality. The researchers successfully developed several compounds with reduced hallucinogenic and cardiotoxic effects while also identifying one compound that produced antipsychotic-like effects.

“By systematically deconstructing L*D, we have identified simplified cores that are better starting points for medicinal chemistry efforts,” said study corresponding author David E. Olson, director of the Institute for Psychedelics and Neurotherapeutics and a professor of chemistry, and biochemistry and molecular medicine at UC Davis.

The School of Medicine Office of Research Grants Facilitation Unit keeps School of Medicine researchers updated on important NIH developments, including changes to any requirements to award programs and application requirements.

Please be advised of the following upcoming changes to its Career Development (K) Award programs, including:

- Consolidating individual K award Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs)
- Eliminating the Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan requirement for K awards
- Clarifying how K award funds may be used for clinical trial research activities

The changes will apply to proposals with due dates on or after October 12, 2027.

The National Cancer Institute has renewed the “comprehensive” designation of UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, recognizing its excellence in research, clinical care, prevention and education.

The renewal includes a nearly $18 million grant over five years. The funding will help advance groundbreaking research, expand access to clinical trials and strengthen programs that address the region’s cancer burden.

The designation places the cancer center among an elite group of only 58 comprehensive cancer centers around the country.

The Flow Cytometry Shared Resource (FCSR) is the primary flow cytometry core laboratory at UC Davis. Its two full service locations in Davis and Sacramento are staffed by cytometry experts who assist users with experiment planning and troubleshooting, instrumentation training, operator-assisted cell sorting, data analysis and data interpretation.
