Can't wait for more stories from the journey after Justin recovers a bit. Truly an epic accomplishment for the books. It was 105 degrees with blow dryer winds as he finished in 8th place with a time of 16 days, 8 hours on the 2,700 mile ride from Banff, Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico.

06/26/2023

We've got a top ten Tour Divide finisher! 8th overall coming in at 16 days, 8 hours of riding from Banff, Canada to New Mexico!

Day 13 (6/21/23) ~ 138 miles on the day
Mile 2093 in Carson National Forest, NM
#8 Overall!!

Justin woke up with digestive track issues that bothered him throughout the day (he can’t wait for fresh food from our garden again). Even so, he kept moving right along staying within the top ten of the race.

The conditions are rough and very slow but he remains steadfast in pushing through it all.

Big emotions this morning (6/22 the start of day 14) as Justin is on his last big climb of the race! Then it is just battling intense heat, sand, and bumpy gravel roads to the finish. No biggie.

Day 11 (6/19/23) ~ 127 miles on the day
Mile 1799.1 South of Salida, CO
#9 overall

Justin decided to set up a camp before a bluff only to realize in the morning there was great places to camp on it - As often the case on long distance journeys. And as he cruised into a town the next morning, a huge crowd lined the streets cheering. Turns out, he must have passed famous rider Lael Wilcox and they were there ready to cheer her through their town. Justin also received a big cheer which he smiled about.

The day became what felt like being on a treadmill but if there’s anything Justin has superhuman powers for, it’s climbing on his bike. So over some epic passes he went.

Day 12 (6/20/23) ~ 156 miles on the day
Mile 1955 North of New Mexico!
#8 overall!

This was another hard day, with rough headwinds making 5mph forward movement a feat in the afternoon. Justin hit a low but this time it did not waiver him whatsoever. His eyes are on that the finish line as he enters the last state, New Mexico, tomorrow!
