Repost The California state legislature resumes its session on Monday, August 18, and needs to confront the real motivations and drivers behind AB 715 - the pro-Israel public education censorship bill at a time when 92% of Democrats disapprove of Israel’s military actions in Gaza and more Americans believe Israel is committing genocide (47%) than not (33%).

Take action against AB 715 by joining us in Sacramento this Tuesday, August 19 to rally and drop into key legislators offices to ensure our voices are heard in opposition to this dangerous bill:

Date: Tuesday, August 19, 2025
Location: Sacramento - State Capital Complex (details TBD)

‼️Organizational Allies: We need your help to stop California’s AB 715! Defend our right to teach about Palestine in our classrooms!‼️

Please help us send official letters of opposition from organizations to the California Senate Education Committee by this Friday, June 27th!

❌AB 715 comes directly from the Project Esther (companion to Project 2025) playbook, which is designed to dismantle pro-Palestinian advocacy within the United States by weaponizing false charges of antisemitism, attributing anti-Jewish discrimination and hate to actions and rhetoric that are not actually antisemitic.

❌ While 715 is being championed by Democrats in California, it employs the same intention and mechanisms to censor educational content when it comes to Israel and Palestine that MAGA Republicans have employed in red states to silence critical perspectives on race, sexuality and other controversial subjects.

❌ AB 715 expands beyond the focus of ethnic studies in the now-withdrawn bill it replaced, AB 1468, to encompass the entire K-12 educational system. While the bill is pitched as an effort to combat discrimination in the form of antisemitism in California public schools, the reality is that the bill’s authors seek to 1) stifle any criticism of Israel and 2) prevent teaching about Palestine within California public education.

‼️URGENT & TIME SENSITIVE - TAKE 1 MINUTE TO PROTECT ETHNIC STUDIES‼️

We are winning—but the fight isn’t over.

Thanks to powerful, intersectional organizing from students, educators, and community members like you, AB 1468 is tentatively being pulled from its hearing. This is a major victory. The bill sought to gut Ethnic Studies and censor conversations about Palestine, colonization, anti-Arab racism, and Islamophobia. Together, we forced its now anticipated withdrawal.

But instead of listening to us, they’re doubling down.

AB 715 is now being quietly gutted and amended to push the same dangerous agenda—this time under the guise of combating antisemitism. Rumored changes would weaponize a politicized definition of antisemitism to silence educators who teach about Palestine, replacing honest education with fear and censorship.

Tell your Assemblymembers: We won’t trade one bad bill for another. We are watching AB 715 closely. Stand up for Ethnic Studies, academic freedom, and Palestinian voices.

As we stand in the crosshairs of MAGA’s attack on K-12 education, the legal rights that protect educators’ ability to teach about liberation and justice depend on our collective political power to defend them. Many of our students are coming to school in a condition of extreme unsafety, with daily threats that the MAGA regime may abduct their parents, take away their medical care and their bathrooms, or assassinate their cousins abroad. The repression targeting teachers is aimed at creating a climate of fear to make teachers afraid to protect kids, and to make kids afraid to ask for what they need to learn.

Courage is as contagious as fear, and we are here to spread courage for our students. At the same time, we want our resistance to be strategic and sustainable. In that spirit, this article provides an overview of students’ and teachers’ free speech rights in and out of the classroom. Please keep it close at school so you can share it with other teachers, administrators, and parents.

‼️Protect Ethnic Studies! Protect Teaching Palestine! Oppose California’s AB1468! ‼️

📚 AB 1468 would create a one-size-fits-all curriculum that’s not Ethnic Studies.
🧠AB 1468 is ideological warfare.
🚨 AB1468 would add even more policing of Ethnic Studies curriculum, none of it by Ethnic Studies scholars.
❌ AB1468 would substitute multiculturalism for Ethnic Studies.

‼️URGENT CALL TO ACTION!‼️

California’s Governor Newsom has not included funding for AB 101: “The Ethnic Studies Graduation Requirement” in next year’s budget proposal. If he doesn’t fund it, opponents of ethnic studies say the law is inactive.

It’s not too late! Tell our electeds, now, more than ever, that we need to fund AB 101!

There are 3 easy ways you can take action now:
1. Send an assembly member an email
2. Send an assembly member a phone call
3. Send and/or make a live public comment to the CA State Assembly Committee on Budget
