One of the things that makes it so much fun to sing is that you can easily swap out the words for any other action words you (or your child) might think to include! A bonus is that giving your child the freedom and encouragement to take a leadership role in playing with you, is a great way to build their self-confidence, self-esteem, and nurture their creativity! It’s also a great way to nudge your children toward cooperation in anything you might need them to accomplish. Have you heard the phrase “Music is the magic motivator!” 😉Try singing this song and throwing in something like: “As I was putting on my shoes, on my shoes, on my shoes…” or “As I was brushing all my teeth, all my teeth” etc. Try including some music and improvised action words this week when you’re trying to get your little one to move along in the grocery aisle or getting them out the door for pre-school, or music class! Children need to play WITH music before they can PLAY music. Research has shown that children learn best through play. When you give your child plenty of opportunities to create and explore music and age-appropriate instruments, keeping it informal and fun is the best way for them to learn - that’s why we create so much musical play in our classes! Our teachers are experts in early childhood music education and are stellar facilitators. They make the music and activities we share in classes easy to learn and to replicate with your family at home. One of the easiest ways to add some spontaneous musical fun to your family’s routine is to put on your favorite tunes and have a family dance party! Try it this week and let us know what happens!

All aboard for the Drum Song Collection! If there’s one thing we’ve learned in class, it’s that children love train songs! This winter, we have a great train song for you and your little ones in our Drum Collection! The song is called “This Train”- your child is going to love chugga-chugging around the classroom and your house as they sing about all the wonderful places they can go in their imaginary train! Did you know that you can use a train song as a back pocket hack to get your little ones moving when they’re dragging their heels?
