Jamal worked hard to complete HBI’s Plumbing program in New Haven and earned an apprenticeship with a Fire Safety company. The only thing standing in his way was transportation. He could not afford car insurance, and without it he would have lost the opportunity he had worked so hard for.

Thanks to the Student Success Fund, Jamal insured his car, started his new role, and is now moving toward a stable and independent future. His story is a reminder that sometimes one simple need can change everything for a student.

🎉Student success story: TJ Griffin graduated from BuildStrong Academy HBI- Sacramento in June 2025 and quickly turned her carpentry training into a fulfilling career. After spotting HBI on Google and wanting a stable path AI couldn’t replace, she enrolled, built her skills, and embraced every challenge. Just weeks after graduation, TJ was hired by SheCan2, a local woman-owned remodeling company as a construction apprentice, now working on residential projects and driving a company truck. Her advice: “Take it seriously. What you learn here, they expect you to know out there.” We’re so proud of you, TJ! 💪🏽🏡
