Sacramento Spark

Today’s class was all about trees 🌳 From analyzing tree cookies to determine not only the age but the life of a tree, to creating a tiny construction paper forest and admiring our “Poet-Tree”… it was a good day 💕

Flower power! Last week we germinated some seeds and came up with ideas for our secret garden 🪴 This week we’re learning the parts of a flower and practicing garden related signs 🌸🤟 our Botany unit is taking root! 🌱

This past Saturday Spark got to host a puppet making workshop with ! The kids got to sew together their very own ‘Squatch hand-puppet (with a little help from our awesome volunteers). They then designed the look of their Squatch by mixing and matching features like eyes 👀 mouths 👄 , horns hair and even teeth! 🦷
We had a great turn out and a lot of fun 😊 Thank you so much !

It’s never too early to introduce kids to chemistry concepts! After a lesson on the parts of an atom, the kids labeled the nucleus and drew electrons (slide 2) on Bohr models of Helium 🎈Oxygen, Aluminum and Calcium 🦴. We then cut each model out (slide 3) and folded it in half. These were then glued together (slides 4 and 5) to form a three dimensional model of these four elements 😃

Continuing our Chemistry unit 🧪 Today’s online class learned more about the properties of liquids by experimenting with density today 👩🏻‍🔬

I should’ve thought it through a bit more before naming our dog 🤦🏻‍♀️ Students have been going home and telling their parents: “Ms.Moddy brought Whiskey to Spark today!” “Whiskey’s so good” and “I love Whiskey!”

After imagining, planning and creating a prototype of their cardboard arcade game, the kiddos got to build their games today using cardboard construction kits! They also earned their For correctly displaying the use of “Righty tighty, Lefty loosey” 🪛🔧 Way to go, kiddos!
