Since being in Dubai, I have learned so much about their education system, their parents, and their kids.

One thing I've learned that has really stood out to me is that the parents here are very willing to invest in their child's education!

When I say they are willing to invest, I mean that they are quick to invest big bucks into their child's education. They will pay to send their children to the best schools. They will pay to make sure their children has the best tutors.

I admire their willingness but not because they are willing to invest money into their children. I admire their willingness because they do what it takes to see their children succeed 👏🏽

Take a step back and think about your child's personality.

🤔 What do they get the most joy out of?

🤔 What type of books are they most interested in?

🤔 What are their pet peeves?

Understanding your child's personality can help you develop a strategy for supporting them as they learn how to read. Use what you know to inspire them to read, minimize distractions and frustrations, and create a new approach for learning.

So if you haven't thought about your child's personality or learning style when it comes to reading, you haven't tried everything 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hard pill to swallow 👇🏽

The best way to learn how to be patient with your child is to learn how to be patient with yourself.

Helping your child learn how to read is not easy. Trust me, I get it!

But it becomes even harder to be patient with your child when you struggle with extending grace to yourself.

🤔 Do you put pressure on yourself to get something right on your first try?
🤔 Do you beat yourself up when you're struggling to learn something new?
🤔 Do you get frustrated with yourself way too often?

If you said yes to any of those questions, the lack of patience you have for yourself could be pouring into how you support your child with reading, learning, or adapting to change.

Whoever told you that emotions & learning don't go hand in hand was lying to you 👀

The reality is that your child's emotions AND their learning experience are one in the same.

Think about it this way 👇🏽

When a kid is hungry, it's hard for them to focus.

When a child is anxious, it's hard for them to produce good work.

🙅🏽‍♀️ We no longer live in a world where we can separate education and cognitive learning from a child's emotional state. When you recognize the role of emotions in learning, we can create learning and teaching experiences where the child is engaged, inspired, and fully supported.
