Donโ€™t miss UC Davis Radiology at the upcoming 2026 Association of Academic Radiology (AAR) Annual Meeting in Atlanta!

Our faculty, trainees, and students are contributing to important conversations shaping the future of radiology education and academic medicine.

๐Ÿ”น Anne Darrow, MA, MD will present โ€œWhat the Eye Canโ€™t See: Implicit Bias in Radiology,โ€ exploring how implicit bias can influence clinical decision-making and educational environments in imaging.
๐Ÿ“… Wednesday, March 18, 3pm ET

๐Ÿ”น David S. Chen , MD will present research on the use of generative AI in diagnostic radiology residency applications, based on a study co-authored by radiology resident Kaylan Griffith, MD, medical student Connie Chan, and Residency Program Director Ghaneh Fananapazir, MD.
๐Ÿ“… Thursday, March 19, 3:40pm ET

Dr. Chen was also selected to participate in the AAR Faculty Development Program at this yearโ€™s meeting.

Congratulations are also due to resident Christopher Lan, MD, for being accepted into the AAR Academic Leadership Development Program, which prepares emerging academic radiologists for future leadership roles.

Weโ€™re proud to see UC Davis faculty, trainees, and students sharing their work and representing UC Davis Radiology on the national stage.

Huge congratulations to Lamia Choudhury, MD on being named the Clinical Conundrums Winner at the 2026 Society of Thoracic Radiology Annual Meeting!

In this fast-paced, live case challenge, residents work through complex thoracic imaging studies before a live audience of peers and national experts. The format goes beyond simply reaching the right diagnosis โ€” it is a true test of diagnostic skill, critical thinking, mastery of thoracic pathology, composure, and clarity under pressure.

Well done and congratulations, Dr. Choudhury! We're proud to see UC Davis and our residency program so well represented!

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy International Day of Medical Physics โ€” and Happy Birthday, Marie Curie!

Today we celebrate the pioneering spirit that drives discovery in medical imaging โ€” and honor the incredible scientists who advance patient care through physics and innovation.

At UC Davis Radiology, our Medical Physics Division is recognized worldwide for its excellence in imaging science, translational research, and mentorship. Our faculty and trainees have a long track record of innovation, leadership, and international recognition in areas ranging from total-body PET/CT with the EXPLORER scanner and advances in breast CT to AI-driven image reconstruction, sustainable imaging practices, and radiation dose optimization/safety.

Weโ€™re proud to celebrate three of our faculty who recently received prestigious national and international honors:

๐Ÿ… Dr. John Boone โ€” IUPESM Award for Merit in Medical Physics
๐Ÿ… Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari โ€” 2025 Distinguished Investigator, Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research
๐Ÿ… Dr. Guobao Wang โ€” IEEE Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society Medical Imaging Technical Achievement Award

โš›๏ธ These are just three examples of our amazing team whose groundbreaking work exemplifies the spirit of innovation and collaboration that defines UC Davis Radiology โ€” and continues the legacy of Marie Curieโ€™s vision: using science to improve lives!

๐ŸŽ‰ We are thrilled to share that the UC Davis School of Medicine - Office of Research honored two outstanding members of our UC Davis Health Department of Radiology team at the recent UC Davis School of Medicine Research Celebration โ€” with Radiology winning two of the five Research Rock Star Awards!

๐Ÿ… Congratulations to:
๐Ÿ”น Phu Huynh โ€“ Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor II at the EXPLORER Molecular Imaging Center (EMIC)
๐Ÿ”น Kevin Chung, Postdoctoral Fellow with the Wang Lab

๐ŸŒŸ Phu Huynh
In his role at EMIC, Phu oversees all studies using the EXPLORER Total-Body PET/CT scannerโ€” supporting more than 30 research programs spanning cancer, autoimmune, neurologic, and metabolic diseases.

๐Ÿฉป Phu is at the operational center of clinical research at EMIC, developing and implementing advanced imaging protocols, to ensuring regulatory compliance, equipment procurement/maintenance, and even stepping in during evenings and weekends. He embodies reliability, adaptability, technical acumen and a deep commitment to the science and the people behind it. His kindness, collegiality and โ€œget-things-doneโ€ attitude make him the linchpin for our centerโ€™s high-impact operations.

๐Ÿง  Kevin Chung
Dr. Kevin Chungโ€™s groundbreaking work leverages the EXPLORER total-body PET/CT system to study how the bloodโ€“brain barrier (BBB) changes in early disease. By developing new imaging techniques to quantify BBB permeability, his research provides crucial insights into how systemic and neurologic processes interact long before symptoms appear. His findings are helping to redefine how we detect, monitor, and understand neurodegenerative and inflammatory disorders at their earliest stages.

โœจ This groundbreaking research has garnered international acclaim, earning Dr. Chung several prestigious awards and positioning him as a rising leader in molecular imaging.

๐Ÿ† Congratulations, Phu and Kevin โ€” your work inspires us all!
