Folsom High School’s Chamber Choir helped mark a historic moment in Sacramento County education on September 1, 2026, opening the Sacramento County Office of Education’s induction and swearing-in ceremony for Superintendent of Schools Jacqueline White. Representing the Folsom Cordova USD, the students shared their talent with education leaders, community members, families and guests through a performance that earned a standing ovation.

With the guidance of Chamber Choir Director Melanie Huber and the accompaniment of Renee Harris, Folsom High School students delivered a polished and engaging performance featuring a diverse repertoire. The choir performed In Meeting, We Are Blessed, arranged by Troy Robertson; Sikirilkek/Koli, arranged by Sabelo Mthembu; and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, arranged by Roger Emerson, which featured student soloist Xavi Suelto.

The opportunity highlighted the professionalism, preparation and dedication of the students and the staff who supported them. Behind the scenes, VAPA Coordinator Mindy Andrus and Administrative Assistant Lisa Vaca worked closely with SCOE to coordinate transportation, schedules, accompaniment, audio/visual needs, logistics and other details.

For the Chamber Choir, the event was more than a performance. It was an opportunity to represent their school and district in front of education leaders and community members while demonstrating the impact of high-quality arts education.

We are of the Folsom High School Chamber Choir students for representing our district with such confidence, talent and professionalism while helping welcome Superintendent Jacqueline White to this important new chapter in Sacramento County education. A special thank you to the dedicated staff whose guidance, support and commitment helped bring this meaningful opportunity to life.

We’re grateful to the UC Davis Children's Hospital for their service to our students and especially proud of our Health Services team for making student vision a priority. Clear vision plays an important role in learning, reading and academic success, and our dedicated staff work hard to make sure students get the care they need to see and learn their best!

The UC Davis Pediatric Mobile Clinic partnered with the Folsom Cordova Unified School District to host a four-hour free vision screening and diagnostic clinic in Rancho Cordova last month. The clinic served students who did not pass their school vision screenings and needed comprehensive follow-up care.

The community-centered clinic on wheels delivers specialty medical and mental health services directly to schools across the Sacramento region.

Participating students received a free comprehensive diagnostic evaluation by the UC Davis Eye Center team and individualized recommendations for follow-up care. Students who were prescribed glasses received vouchers that could be redeemed at no cost at any UC Davis Eye Center location.

Twenty-seven schools in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District have been recognized as 2026 California PBIS Recognized Schools, honoring their dedication to students and commitment to creating positive, supportive school environments where every student can thrive.

The California PBIS Recognition System celebrates schools for their implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, a framework designed to promote positive behavior, strengthen school culture and support student success.

This year, seven FCUSD schools earned Platinum recognition, seven earned gold recognition, 11 earned silver recognition, and two earned bronze recognition.

Folsom Cordova USD is launching a districtwide awareness campaign to encourage reading outside of the school day. Each month, we’ll share simple ideas, resources, and encouragement to help families make reading a regular part of everyday life.

As we begin a new school year, let’s make reading part of every day. Whether it’s a favorite picture book, graphic novel, magazine, or chapter book, time spent reading helps children build vocabulary, background knowledge, and confidence.
20 minutes of reading a day can make a difference. Find a book your child loves and make reading part of the daily routine.

The Folsom Cordova USD is proud to announce Dawn Critchfield Dober, MTSS specialist at Russell Ranch Elementary School, as the 2027 FCUSD Teacher of the Year. Last week, she was recognized as a 2027 Sacramento County Teacher of the Year honoree during the Sacramento County Teachers of the Year Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Aug. 21, 2026, in Sacramento.

Dawn was selected as one of the county’s outstanding educators through the Sacramento County Teachers of the Year Program, coordinated by the Sacramento County Office of Education. The program recognizes excellence in teaching among the county’s public school educators and celebrates their dedication to students and contributions to their school communities.

With more than 30 years in education, Dawn has dedicated her career to supporting student achievement, strengthening literacy instruction and collaborating with teachers to help ensure every learner has the opportunity to succeed. In her current role, she helps build systems of support that improve outcomes for students across grade levels.

“I believe that every student deserves to feel seen, supported and capable of success,” Dawn Critchfield Dober, Teacher, Russell Ranch Elementary School said. “When students feel safe and valued, they are more willing to take risks, engage deeply in learning and ultimately achieve at higher levels.

Congratulations to Dawn Critchfield Dober on this well-deserved recognition. FCUSD is to celebrate her dedication to students, colleagues and the Russell Ranch Elementary School community.

A new chapter for two Folsom Cordova USD schools began Tuesday, August 18, as District and City leaders, educators, staff, students, alumni and community members gathered to celebrate groundbreaking ceremonies at Cordova High School and Cordova Villa Elementary School. The celebrations highlighted major facility investments made possible through the community’s support of Measures R & S, approved by local voters in 2024.

Sacramento County representatives, along with representatives of federal and state elected officials presented certificates recognizing the milestone, alongside District and City of Rancho Cordova leaders.

The groundbreaking at Cordova High School marked the next phase of the $44 million modernization and expansion project. A new approximately 45,000-square-foot, two-story building will bring administration, counseling, mental health support, college and career services, a new library, community resources, 13 classrooms and collaborative learning spaces together under one roof. The project also includes a new entry plaza, improved fencing and access points, exterior window replacements and other campus improvements. Construction began this summer with interim classrooms and demolition of the existing C Wing. The existing administration building is set to be removed as the new facility takes shape. The Cordova High School project will be completed in 2027.

The Cordova High celebration honored the school’s pride and history, featuring a performance by teacher Kevin Sims and the Cordova High drumline, a presentation of colors and the Pledge of Allegiance by Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets. Students also contributed, with Business Academy students designing Lancer stickers and engineering students creating commemorative key chains for guests.

At Cordova Villa Elementary, Tuesday’s groundbreaking laid the foundation for a modern learning environment designed to inspire the next generation of thinkers, creators and leaders in the Folsom Cordova community.

Plans include demolition of the existing administration and classroom building, a new multi-classroom modular wing, a permanent administration building, new entry plaza, fencing, playground and paving and landscaping improvements. The Cordova Elementary School Phase 1 will be completed in 2027, followed by Phase 2 in 2028.

Folsom Cordova USD extends its sincere gratitude to local voters and the community for their continued support of Measures R & S. Their investment is helping create modern, inspiring learning environments that will serve students, families and generations of learners for years to come.
