Why does breastfeeding matter? 💗🤱🏾

Breastfeeding is more than feeding, it can support baby’s growth, strengthen bonding, and provide important health benefits for both baby and mom. But every feeding journey is different, and every mom deserves to feel informed, supported, and respected in her choices.

Black families continue to experience breastfeeding disparities, making access to culturally responsive care, lactation support, and accurate information so important. 🖤💚

Let’s create spaces where Black moms feel empowered to make the feeding choices that are right for them. Because support matters. Representation matters. Black families matter. ✨💗 We All We Got.

💗 Mama, your mental health matters too. Pregnancy can bring many changes, emotions, and responsibilities and feeling stressed or overwhelmed is something you don’t have to face alone.

Recognizing the signs of prenatal stress is an important part of caring for yourself and your growing baby. Take a moment to breathe, rest, move your body, journal, or lean on someone you trust. Small acts of self-care can make a meaningful difference. 🌿

Remember: You are strong, you are supported, and asking for help is a sign of strength. If stress feels overwhelming or difficult to manage, talk with your healthcare provider or a trusted support person.

Save this post for later and share it with an expecting mama who may need a reminder to care for herself. 💕

🤱 Different Uses for Breastmilk 🩷

Did you know that breastmilk does more than nourish your baby? It also has natural properties that may help soothe and comfort in certain situations.

✨Some common uses include:

🤍 Soothing sore or cracked ni***es
🤍 Helping calm diaper rash
🤍 Supporting comfort for minor skin irritations
🤍 Gently cleaning around the eyes (with guidance from your healthcare provider)
🤍 Providing comfort for minor cuts and scrapes
Breastmilk is an incredible gift—created specifically to nourish, protect, and support your baby’s growth.

While some families use breastmilk for these common home remedies, it’s important to remember that not all uses are backed by strong scientific evidence. Always talk with your baby’s healthcare provider if symptoms are severe, persistent, or you’re unsure about the best treatment.

At Black Infant Health, we’re here to empower Black mothers and families with education, support, and community every step of the way. 🖤❤️💚

💬 Have you ever used breastmilk for something besides feeding? Share your experience in the comments!

🖤 Black Maternal Mental Health Week | July 19–25 🖤
Every mother deserves to feel supported, heard, and cared for. 🤍

Black Maternal Mental Health Week is a time to raise awareness about the mental health challenges that disproportionately impact Black women and birthing people during pregnancy and the postpartum period. It is also a reminder that mental health is maternal health.
Too many Black mothers face barriers to accessing compassionate, culturally responsive care. By raising awareness, sharing resources, and building community, we can help break the stigma surrounding perinatal mental health and ensure that no mother has to navigate her journey alone.

🌿 Remember:
🤍 It is okay to ask for help.
🤍 Your feelings are valid.
🤍 Healing is not a journey you have to take alone.
🤍 You deserve support before, during, and after pregnancy.

At Black Infant Health, we believe that when Black mothers thrive, families and communities thrive. Together, let’s continue advocating for equitable care, creating safe spaces, and uplifting every Black mother—today and every day.

🫶🏾 If you’re struggling, know this: You are seen. You are valued. You are worthy of support.
💚 Save this post to help spread awareness.
❤️ Share it with a mother who deserves this reminder.
💬 Tell us in the comments: What does supporting Black maternal mental health look like to you?
