There are so many things I love about this bull. He is sweet; some cows just have gentle dispositions and this handsome guy is no exception. He is easy to halter, easy in the chute, and walks in to position. He reminds me so much of King, who was by far the easiest to handle bull I’ve ever raised. King was my number one selfie buddy, he loved me, and I loved him (except when he dug in the bedding at fair, destroying the beds I spent hours to make 😡). Shrek certainly has some big shoes to fill.

We have two litters currently, and a third on the way. These guys will be perfect for August fairs! Huge shoutout to Jake and Josh for all the help getting pens ready!

Have you ever tried to get pictures of an expecting mama? Well I did and I almost lost an arm.... On the other hand, did you hear about that game last night?! Holy cow it was a good one! Congratulations to the Yelm
High school Football team on the win last night!

What an honor it was to be mentioned in this article. FFA, 4H, and the Angus Association have impacted my life in so many positive ways.

We made it through another year at the Thurston County Fair!!! Last night while waiting for Jake to come back for the second load (we are always the last ones out of the barn). I said goodbye to my fair family; some I will see next year and for some this was their last fair. I can’t believe next year will be my final year at Thurston, how crazy is that? Here are a few pictures of my 2019 year at the fair.

This might be a long post folks, but it is an important one. I tried posting this earlier and it didn’t upload properly, perhaps it was divine intervention. I was able to collect my thoughts and refine my post. Last night was the sale, I made it through with no tears and a heart full of gratitude. Being a youth in agriculture isn’t easy. I spend early mornings and late nights caring for my animals. I balance high school, running start, work, and farm life. Some days it is overwhelming, and frustrating. Other days, like yesterday, I realize what a blessing being a farm kid is. I have always been fortunate to have amazing support, from family and friends (that have become family). Being at fair this week I realized that no matter how my day is going I need to be an example to the younger kids; they are the future of these programs and need to see the positive, and how to handle the ugly. I can’t begin to thank everyone who supported me this week, with out you none of this would be possible; Jacob, Molly, Kassidy, Colin and Millie, Mr. Mounts, Mom, Dad, Hailey, Bailey Mounts, Amber Waage, Sam Hyder, The Keller family, The Hummel family, Makenzie, Grandma Robin, Papa Bill, Grandma Debbie, Papa Dan, and my buyers Hidden Prairie Farms and Ernie’s. Thank you all for being part of this adventure.

It’s been a tornado of a week (little YHS humor)😂. Thursday was incredibly busy and far too hot; FFA and 4h show. Hooey has been an amazing partner and because of him we won Grand Champion Senior Showmen. Today is auction day, it’s bittersweet, Hooey and Amy have been amazing and I am definitely going to be sad when they sell. The lessons they have taught me will follow me my entire life.

Showing cattle is a family activity, everyone has a role. Jake has always viewed fair as a social event, never took it as serious as I thought he should. This last year he changed, he has become my right hand man. From daily chores (feeding in the pouring down rain on a tractor that has seen better days), being the heavy muscle when wrestling uncooperative cattle, setting up and tearing down for each fair, making my seemingly last minute almost impossible stall decorations a reality, and demonstrating that he can actually clip cows. I couldn’t do this without him, and his crazy shenanigans. Thank you Jacob, not just for today but for everyday. I love you 💕.
