For the 6th year, we are again collecting toys for families in the Mendell School Community honoring the memory of Sean Jackson, who passed away in 2011. For those who do not know Sean, he was an important and much-loved member of the Mendell and Hurley School Communities. He worked for the YMCA of Greater Boston in the after school program and in summer camp and touched the lives of urban youth all across the city of Boston. He was a positive role model, with a youthful spirit and was adored and looked up to by all the children he encountered because he genuinely cared about each and every one of them. Sean's presence at camp and the Hurley and Mendell schools was immeasurable, and the toy drive has been a way to keep his spirit alive. If you would like to donate a toy in Sean's memory, please visit the Wish List at myregistry.com (search for Mendell Toy Drive). Donations of toys and gift cards are being accepted now until December 20th and may be shipped straight to the Mendell School from myregistry.com, or from the website of your choice. Please ship or drop off all donations to the Mendell School, c/o Lesley Silvia at 164 School Street Roxbury, MA 02119. Cash donations through PayPal may also be made through myregistry. Excitedly heading into our last week of toy collecting!! Due to the impending storm on Tuesday, it is anticipated that shipment deliveries will be delayed. Please, if you would still like to contribute, it is recommended that you purchase a Target gift card online and send it to [email protected]. You can also purchase toys online at Target and I will pick them up at the Westwood location. Just be sure you list Lesley Silvia as the pick up person and send the confirmation email to [email protected]. Again, thank you so much for your generosity!

Friends and family of this wonderful community came through beautifully!! Toys were delivered to 87 families AND their siblings at the Mendell on Friday, and tomorrow, I will be visiting 3 homes and the YMCA (where many of our students will be for vacation care) to deliver the remaining gifts. Please HELP!! We have a HUGE shortage of toys this year and a long list of children in need. It’s not too late to donate! Order from Target, any toy, even if it’s not on the list. Select “pick up at store” and select the Westwood, MA location. Be sure to list me (Lesley Silvia) as the pick up person. I will pick up donations every day until Christmas, and will be sure they are all delivered. Please share! Thank you all for your help and generosity. We WILL make this happen!

Attention everyone! The Toy Drive is up and running for the 8th year!! Please invite your friends to "like" this page and to donate a toy in Sean's memory. All donations will benefit a child and their family from the Mendell Elementary School in Roxbury.

So many toys!!!! And these were just the ones I could fit in my car! There is still a TON at school and I know we have more on the way! I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who donated and supported the Toy Drive this year. There is sure to be many smiling little faces this weekend 😊

Now let the wrapping begin....

It's not too late to donate! If you don't think the gifts will be mailed to the school before Thursday, please message me and we can arrange for them to be delivered to my house. I will be delivering gifts directly to families even after Thursday. So every toy will find a happy home!
