Marlleen told me about these amazing freezable lunch bags and Iâve seen some other lunchbox options that are stackable that I am really considering to make community co-op day smoother around lunchtime. What are your go-to deals for back to school shopping?!

Today I hosted my first Classical Conversations information meeting with a prospective family. Sharing what CC is all about is truly my passion. The more I talk about it the more excited I myself get! Plus being able to help families on their homeschooling journey, whether they choose CC or not, is such a blessing to me. What could you talk for hours about??? For me, itâs definitely homeschooling!! If youâre wanting to learn more about CC donât hesitate to reach out! :)

Have you heard of Gameschooling? Yes, schooling with games! Is it fun? Absolutely! Is it "learning?" ABSOLUTELY!! If you've never heard of gameschooling this is a nice brief article to introduce you to the concept. I can't say I consider myself a gameschooler but I do like to keep a nice collection of games. We just added a few games that my children wanted a week or two ago. I'll post them in the links along with my review of them.
I've definitely seen an improvement in mental math and reading as a result of game play. Do you use games in your homeschool? What benefits can you attest to?

Why Classical Education? A real life exampleâŚ.
The first stage (the grammar stage) of the classical method is all about memorizing facts and lists. In Classical Conversations this year, my five year old learned a fun and extremely short song about famous Greeks. This little history sentence they memorized to a tune went through Homer, Pythagorus, Socrates, and finally, Archimedes - dubbed as âthe famous inventor.â He was taught nothing about these men specifically - just memorized the sentence.
Today, while reading our math book (Life of Fred: Apples), Clark saw this page and immediately got excited because he âknew Archimedes! He was a famous Greek person who invented things!â
Do you see? He memorized, and then when he came into contact with this information again, he was able to discern that this was a real person. It was no longer just a sentence, but a historical imprint in his mind. He even went as far as to say that Archimedes might be thinking in this painting of what he may invent next.
This is how the memorizing comes to fruition in the ever-developing regions of a small childâs brain.

Summer reading! What's on your read aloud list? We've started The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros and are finishing up Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations by Alex Harris and Brett Harris.
Crystal and I talked a little over our FB live call this past weekend about how passionate we are about reading aloud with our teens. It's important to keep this up even if they can read on their own, even if they say they're "busy," even if they roll their eyes and sigh dramatically! Why? It's good for them. It's good for the family AND they secretly LOVE it!!! Some of my favorite moments and discussions have happened during the pauses, in-between chapters, where we stop and admire, question, or argue. Love it!
