APRIL 5th - APRIL IS POETRY MONTH! Read a poem to your children every day! The following poem is from "Walking the Bridge of Your Nose" selected by Michael Rosen

The Cow
by Jack Prelutsky
The cow mainly moos as she chooses to moo
and she chooses to moo as she chooses.
She furthermore chews as she chooses to chew
and she chooses to chew as she muses.
If she chooses to moo she may moo to amuse
or may moo just to moo as she chooses.
If she chooses to chew she may moo as she chews
or may chew just to chew as she muses.

Draw a picture of some chewing cows in the pasture. Include some cartoon bubbles to tell what the cow is saying or thinking!

Arbor Day
by Dorothy Brown Thompson
To planat a tree! How small the twig,
And I beside it - very big.
A few years pass; and now the tree
Looks down on very little me.
A few years more - it is so high
Its branches seem to touch the sky.
I did not know that it would be
So vast a thing to plant a tree.

Take a walk. See if you can find at least five different trees.

APRIL 3RD - APRIL IS POETRY MONTH! Read a poem to your children every day! The following poem is from "Puddle Wonderful, Poems to Welcome Spring"
April Rain
by Langston Hughes
Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk,
The rain makes running pools in the gutter.
The rain plays a little sleep-song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.

Put on your raincoat and take a walk in the rain. Don't forget to walk through every puddle!

April is Poetry Month. Read a poem to your children every day. Set a time aside for the reading. April 1st - The following poem is from "It's Raining Laughter" by Nikki Grimes
LISTEN
Listen
Let me tell you
where things stand.
Each day is like fruit
Resting ripe in my hand.
Will I sample its sweetneess?
Will I toss it away?
Will I let you steal it?
I got one thing to say.
Don't try it.
Don't try it.

SNOWPERSON MOBILE - Need a snow day activity? Cut out two sets of three circles from white paper. I staple the two papers together to make the cutting a less frustrating activity and the pieces match up perfectly. Do the same with a scarf and hat made out of colorful construction paper. Draw face with marker. Now sandwich twine or ribbon in between the three sets of circles with liquid glue.
Make room for the scarf between small and medium sized circle. Add the hat and branches for arms. The arms can be cut paper or actual twigs. Suspend the mobile where you like and let the fun continue!
