Hello everyone! It's been a while. I have some bad news: I'm down to 1 hive. I had a bad wax moth infestation, and now a hive beetle infestation. Since I am at college, my parents have been really nice to treat them and keep up on getting beetle traps in the hives. Not sure if the girls will make it through the winter. I hope to update with better news in the future! On a good note, I've sold all my honey from my summer harvest!

Today I discovered I lost one of my hives to Wax moth larvae. A couple weeks ago I had just gotten a new queen and the girls took to her well so I thought hopefully the hive would bounce back. A few days ago I noticed a lot of pollen and wax ‘dust’ on the porch of the hive and less bees going in and out. I assumed they were just doing cleaning, and didn’t think anything of it. When I opened the hive today, there was not a single bee inside. wax moth larvae were EVERYWHERE. It was so disgusting, and disheartening. I didn’t see the girls leave, but I know they left and weren’t ate to death.
This is the first hive I have totally lost and I feel bad for them. But I have learned and next year hopefully this won’t happen!
I’ve added a video of this bumblebee in our hostas just bee-cause.

Are you giving your girls enough water? Even if you don’t have bees, putting a little tray of water out with rocks in it will have your local pollinators thanking you. Over time, more will show up and learn where the water comes from! This is super important during a hot day! 🐝✨🍄

Did you know some bees have long tongues, and others have short tongues? Their “tongue” is actually called a ‘glossa’ which is the closest resemblance to a tongue. Some bees just fold up their tongue under their body when not in use. This lady is grooming herself after being saved from drowning in the water bowl on a hot day. -

Today is super chilly in ohio, so my hives aren’t very active. I did pop open my 2Frame Nuc to look at these ladies! I need to shake some more bees in there. My large hives were just treated with Oxalic acid, and they have been looked through quite a few times recently, so i’m going to give them a little break! Hopefully I will be putting a super on soon for both of those, and hopefully I can get a new queen hatched! -🐝🐞
