WE ARE NOT FEARLESS. WE ARE WILLING.
Firefighters. Police officers. Paramedics. They knew the building was burning.
They knew the towers were coming apart. They knew the outcome was almost certainly already written.
And they went in anyway.
They did not hold back or enter reluctantly, they RAN. They ran to the people trapped, scared and hurting because they took an oath to do it.
They didn't go because they weren't afraid, they went because someone needed them.
That's the legacy every firefighter is expected to carry on.
Not fearlessness but unwavering courage.
Courage isn't the absence of fear. It's feeling that fear, knowing exactly what it could cost you, and doing what must be done anyway.
And if the worst comes, we give everything we have to bring someone else home.
That's not recklessness, that's the promise we made.
That's the legacy they left in the smoke for us to uphold.
We remember them by refusing to let that legacy die.
We train.
We prepare.
We answer the call.
We stand in the gap.
Because service means something and there are moments when giving your life for another isn't a choice you debate.
We are not fearless, we are willing.
We are firefighters.
Never forget.
