Three frog fishing mistakes to avoid:

1. Skipping the edges – Don't reel in fast as soon as your lure clears cover. Slow down at the shade line and walk it side-to-side in place.
2. Stopping after sunrise – Midday summer heat and bluebird skies can trigger topwater bites all day long, so keep fishing past morning.
3. Leaving after one catch – Bass stack up in shallow vegetation. Always make multiple casts in the same patch before moving on.

100 Degrees outside and they are eating a frog at 3pm in the afternoon! August and September are great months to throw a frog if you have shallow grass or lily pads in your fishery. These bass were in 18in of water and I was barely able to get the BassCat within casting distance of them.

When it gets really hot for a few week with no rain, big bass will push ultra shallow looking for more oxygen. A SPRO Bronzeye Poppin Frog is by far my favorite way to target these bass. I’ll have a full video breakdown on the Fish the Moment YouTube channel later this month.

Here are my top 5 baits for August bass fishing:
