Members and Colleagues,

First and foremost, there are many thanks to extend for a highly successful meeting:

Kendra Ingle and the amazing Staff of the J.H.R.V.N.C., your facilities and assistance were amazing! To have this space provided free of charge was a real blessing for us.

Dr. Baltosser and Dr. Cato, our invited speakers, for disseminating their knowledge and expertise, excellent work gentlemen!

Hillary Fischer, VP/Secretary and now returning President, the refreshments were spot on as always and it's great to have someone to hand the torch to for the upcoming year!

Sara Cato, the paparazzi in attendance making us look good! We will be uploading photos to our AES page soon!

Our presentation competition winners: MS, Paige Hickman & Brianna Trejo; PhD, Hillary Fischer & Sushant Potdar!
All the students who came to present, including the wonderful posters (we made the display work haha next year we will try and do better)! I am always impressed with the talent we have here in the Natural State!
Dr. Lewis and the insect display, the public portion of the meeting garnered an awesome turn out with 35-45 folks coming out to learn the ABC's of entomology.
My blushing bride, Susie Jones, for handling registration duties!

Lessons learned this year included the need to invest in a slide-advancer and name tags that will actually stick to a shirt lapel. We are always interested in attendee input and if you have comments or ideas that could improve our Society, or meetings, please let us know!

Treasury Report: This meeting generated an income of $351.00. While this did not fully cover costs it was ample to cover all refreshments. Student awards were the only other cost and totaled $240.00. Our balance should be somewhere near $2500.00 remaining once everything is settled.

It was great to have minds from both cross-campus and across the state in attendance. Whereas this meeting could nearly have been considered a lepidopterists meeting, the diversity of study topics in the state stemming from these insects is quite impressive. I wish you all well in the upcoming seasons and look forward to meeting again in 2020!

Sincerely,
Austin K. Jones

The evolutionary arms-race can produce some crazy things!

The western corn rootworm continues to be on the rise in Europe. Why attempts to biologically target this crop pest by applying entomopathogenic nematodes have failed, can now be explained by the amazing defense strategy of this insect. In their new study, scientists from the University of Bern, Swi...
