This semester, Weston Cone has been hard at work. 💥 As a Junior at Rocklin and member of the EST Program, he’s learned a lot about welding and metalworking in the last few years. 🧑‍🏭 Recently, he’s been using his skills and creativity to innovate a variety of products on his own time. He’s learned a lot and discovered his specialty, the creation of metal flowers of all types. 🌹🌷🌻

“My favorite part of the project is getting to take something super delicate and precious in nature and make it indestructible.”

After making a few for his girlfriend and friends and realizing how popular they were, he decided to formally sell his work. Today, these projects are available for purchase through his instagram .cone They make a fantastic gift with Valentine’s Day and other holidays quickly approaching! ❤️

Check out .cone to support the progress of his work and business! See what he’s going to create next!

We had the opportunity to visit High-Hand Nursery, 🌸🌿a great place to buy all kinds of plants, gardening tools, outdoor decorations, and more! As you step into their nursery you're met with a wide array of trees, shrubs, topiary, succulents, and flowers. You can either choose to continue on to their massive greenhouse, or stop by the High-Hand Cafe ☕️ which is at the center of the nursery (with food made from fresh and local ingredients). 🌱

Right next to the nursery is the High-Hand Fruit Shed which stores their olive oil company (they also sell wines and vinegars), an iron and pottery shop, jewelry, and even an art gallery. 🎨Outside of the nursery and storefront, High-Hand hosts a variety of events from workshops to weddings, and provides landscaping services. Basically, you're going to have to come back in more than once... especially if you want to spot the cat that roams around! 🐈‍⬛

This weekend, members of our team had the opportunity to visit Bru Coffee House in Loomis. ☕️ Bru is a a cute and homey local coffee spot featuring local coffee, art, and music. 🎨🎶

They have a spacious patio for those warm sunny days ☀️ but also offer indoor seating. WIFI, outlets, and games are also available.🔌🎯

Along with their wide variety of hot and iced drinks, they also have sweet treats! 🥐Grab a low carb pastry & amazing baked treats from a local bakery. We highly recommend the monkey bread!

They are a part of the non-profit EveryONE Matters Ministries. All profits from the coffee house go directly to helping individuals and families experiencing situational homelessness in our community. ❤️❤️

Consider visiting Bru Coffee House for yourself at 3565 Taylor Rd, Loomis, CA 95650 ☕️

Based in Rocklin, we’ve been able to see firsthand the effects of the fairly local wildfires. Businesses, especially small businesses, are faced with many challenges when in close proximity of fires and other natural disasters.

Not only are their jobs difficult already, but keeping theirselves, their businesses, and their products safe during adversity is even harder.

Keep reading to learn more. We encourage you to do more research to see how you can support business owners in need! 🧡

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO TRH! 🥳

Our first general meeting of the year as well as our non-profit’s birthday celebration was definitely a day worth remembering! By introducing board members 👋, playing games 🤩, and enjoying some good food 😋, members were able to form close bonds to make sure this year of The Residential Hermes would be as successful as possible.

Thank you to everyone - members, board members, business owners, teachers, student entrepreneurs, community members, etc. - for supporting our initiative to promote small businesses in our community. We have already made so much progress as a result of all the support and kindness that we have received from our community and can’t wait to continue doing more this year and for years to come.

Thanks for celebrating with us and make sure to stay tuned for everything else that we have planned for this upcoming year!

💗 The Residential Hermes Team :)

Happy Pride Month everyone! 🏳️‍🌈
While we celebrate the voices of the LGBTQ+ community, we also need to pay attention to our shopping habits. 🛍

Read the infographic above to learn about rainbow capitalism, aka “pride pandering” that corporations use to make money. 💵

While it seems like a good marketing strategy, rainbow capitalism actually shows the disconnect between what q***r people deserve (support, understanding, acceptance, and above all, equality) versus many corporations’ desires to make a quick buck with cheap merchandise and even opposition to LGBTQ+ concerns post-June.

Make sure to support LGBTQ-owned businesses and charities and once again, Happy Pride Month! ✨

BEHIND TRH: Hi, my name is Maggie Botrous and I am a junior at Rocklin High School. Some things that I enjoy doing are hanging out with my friends and family, baking, and playing soccer.
I am in the Website Department and have been apart of it ever since the beginning of the Residential Hermes.
The Website Department is responsible for taking the business bios that are written by the Journalism Department and making a customized page featured on our website. The Website Department also works together to constantly improve the functionality of the website.
As we are transitioning our website onto a new platform, our team is working diligently to renew our previous designs and make sure everything functions efficiently by communicating throughout the week.
My favorite part about being in The Residential Hermes Club is knowing that I am helping to promote small businesses in our area. I love being able to contribute to our website so that these businesses get the attention that they deserve.
