There’s more than one way to access speech therapy services. 💬✨

Depending on age, eligibility, medical need, and insurance coverage, families may be able to access services through:

👶 Early Intervention / Regional Center — birth to age 3
🏫 School District — age 3+ for children who qualify for school-based services
🩺 Medical Insurance — coverage varies based on your plan, benefits, diagnosis, and authorization requirements
💛 Private Pay — an option for families seeking direct access, greater scheduling flexibility, or services outside of insurance coverage

Each pathway has different eligibility criteria and requirements, and it can be difficult to know where to start.

If you’re considering speech therapy, give our office a call! 📞 Our team can let you know whether we accept your insurance, discuss available options, and help guide you through the next steps for scheduling an evaluation.

You don’t have to navigate the process alone. The right pathway may look different for every family, but getting the right support starts with knowing your options. 🍯💬

🗣️✨ How many words should your child be saying?

Every child develops at their own pace, but expressive vocabulary milestones can help us understand whether speech and language skills are progressing as expected. 🍯

By around:
👶 1 year: approximately 1–10 true words
🧸 2 years: approximately 50–200 words and beginning to combine words
🌿 3 years: approximately 200–1,000+ words and using short phrases and sentences

A “true word” doesn’t have to sound perfect! If your child consistently uses the same sound or word approximation with meaning—like “ba” for “ball”—it can still count as a word. 💬

If your child is not meeting expected communication milestones, has a limited vocabulary, is not combining words, or you simply have concerns, it may be a good idea to schedule an evaluation with a speech-language pathologist. Early evaluation can help determine whether your child would benefit from additional support. 🤍

Big shoutout to Ms. Carrie for completing her Graduate level clinical internship at Honeycomb Speech Therapy! 🍯🐝💛

Throughout her internship, Carrie gained valuable experience working with both pediatric and adult clients and truly rocked every service delivery model—in-person therapy, teletherapy, in-home services, evaluations, and treatment. 👏✨

We are incredibly proud of the clinical skills, confidence, adaptability, and professionalism she has developed during her time with us. We feel confident that she will be an incredible addition to the SLP community as she moves into her next chapter. 🎓🗣️💫
