• JOIN US AT OUR GIM ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH IN DOUGLASS ROOM 401 • • COME AND MEET OUR EBOARD AND OTHER GENERAL MEMBERS •
The goal of UR SEGway (Survivor Empowerment Group) is to spread awareness about sexual assault and make this campus a better environment for survivors.
The mission of UR SEGway is two-fold: to educate our campus about sexual violence and to provide support for survivors. We will do this by presenting information about available campus resources, educating the campus community, and providing a forum for free discussion about these issues. George Floyd’s life mattered: Ahmaud Arbery’s life mattered. Breonna Taylor’s life mattered. And the COUNTLESS other individuals who have lost their lives due to racism mattered. And those who haven’t lost their lives have lost their livelihoods; their security; their family members; their rights; their health; their time; and their dignity. Racism doesn’t stop at the murders that take place on a disgustingly regular basis. Racism is in our justice system; our healthcare; our prisons; our schools; our history textbooks. It’s everywhere and it’s everyday. It’s systemic. And it can even be found inside allies who have been conditioned to have implicit biases. Posting on social media is a start, but it isn’t the solution. Unlearn your implicit biases and question your own deep seeded racism. Educate yourself with books, podcasts, movies, conversations. Challenge your friends and family. Sign petitions. Donate to bail out funds. Invest in black artists. Call your representatives. Vote for better leaders. Show up at protests. Stop telling people how to process their pain and trauma. Learn how to be a better white ally. Give the platform to black voices. Because George Floyd’s life mattered. And his death wasn’t an exception. It was the rule and that rule needs changing.
Come to our e-board elections tonight to run for president, publicity chair, and University of Rochester It's On Us liaison! Elections will be at 7:40 in dougie 302. Come tell us why you want to join our e-board!
