This morning’s RCS Staff Kickoff was high drama—in the best way. Music, energy, school spirit, and enthusiastic call-outs for every school in the district filled the room. But what I appreciated most was how intentionally the morning centered student voices.

What a wonderful way to begin a new school year! I am deeply honored to represent RCS on the Board of Education—and grateful for opportunities like this to witness firsthand the enthusiasm, talent, and sense of community that make RCS so special.

Here’s to the students, educators, staff, and families who will bring the 2026–27 school year to life.

It’s almost that time again!

Important back-to-school reminders for 2026-27

Aug. 24: First day of school. Half day of school, morning only, for students in transitional kindergarten through grade 12 and the Adult Transition Program and Services (ATPS).

Aug. 25-26: Full day of school. Full day for students in grades 1-12 and ATPS. TK and kindergarten students in groups A and B should follow directions from their school.

Aug. 27-28: Full day of school for grades TK-12 and ATPS.

Sept. 4-7: No school. Labor Day recess.

Sept. 8: Classes resume.

It’s time to restock the school supplies, so Neighborhood House’s Blast Off 2 School is ready to help. Get registered now.

Neighborhood House will provide school supplies and back-to-school clothing for students in need during the annual Blast Off 2 School program on Aug. 15.

History and geography are not simply about the past—or about places encountered only on maps. They help students understand the present and recognize their place in an interconnected world.

As a group of RCS students travels through Peru, maps become landscapes, lessons become lived experiences, and unfamiliar places become communities filled with people, stories, and relationships.

That is the power of global learning: it expands knowledge, deepens understanding, and reminds students that the world is both much larger—and much more connected—than they may have imagined.
