📅Vote on the 2027–2028 RCPS School Calendar!

RCPS families and staff, we want to hear from you! The Calendar Committee has created three options for the 2027–2028 school year. The calendar with the most votes will be recommended to the School Board for adoption.

All three options include the addition of a teacher workday before students return after winter break. The primary difference of these options is the date of spring break — one option would align with Roanoke County’s spring break, and the others would align with Botetourt County.

Roanoke City Public Schools is reviewing attendance zones to ensure every student has access to safe, high-quality learning environments, close to home. With the new Preston Park Elementary School opening in August, which will provide more space, RCPS will make small tweaks to reduce overcrowding at nearby elementary schools.

We invite families, staff, and the community to review the proposed adjustments and provide feedback at upcoming town hall meetings and through a survey. In addition to Preston Park, the proposed changes would affect some students at Monterey, Round Hill, Lincoln Terrace, and Fallon Park

Virtual Town Hall: 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4 on Microsoft Teams
In-Person Town Hall: 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at Preston Park Elementary School
Survey: May 4 -May 18

Teacher Appreciation Week is April 27th – May 1st! Let’s come together to show our amazing teachers how much we value them. Each day has a way for students to participate—from bringing a flower or supplies to writing a thank-you note or drawing a picture.

Please keep in mind SOL spirit week is during the same week!

Your support makes a big difference in helping our teachers feel appreciated! 💙
