Working the 4 come square drill.
Here we are working the Square Cut.

The square cut is very similar to a speed cut. A WR will use multiple brake steps (2 or 3 is ideal). Once he reaches the plant step, the mechanics are the same as the speed cut. After the brake steps, the receiver will use a plant step, an elbow jam, and then drive off of his drive step.

Here we see Marquise repping the 4 cone square cut drill. Gotta keep working and keep building!

To my athletes. There will ALWAYS be an excuse if you want an excuse to not train. Don’t let the rain give you a reason to sit at home. GET THAT WORK IN. Rain doesn’t cancel games!

Arguably the hardest break point to maintain body control is the “Speed Cut” because it inherently requires the receiver to cut violently at full speed.

3 key coaching points to help the receiver get friendly are:

1. RUN THROUGH THE BREAK. Do not shorten your stride. Put fear in the DB that you are running by him.

2. keep the arms pumping throughout the cut - this will help the athlete pull his body through the cut and power through the break point. If the receiver lets his arms go dead, he is more likely to drift at the top of this route.

3. Snap your head back to the QB once you get through the break, drive, line movement. This will force you to stay flat and stay QB friendly!

Here DreSean does an amazing job at running through the break, snapping his head to the QB, staying friendly, and getting up up field after the catch.
