Presenting your new Dive Club President, Carson Piansky! She has been on international dive trips and has her Master Diver and Rescue Diver certifications. You may have seen her before because she has served as the club secretary for the past 2 years. However, next year she will be stepping into the role of president. Weโ€™re excited for her! Be sure to come say hi at the first club meeting next semester! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ

The last dive of the semester took place at Blue Heron Bridge! Among the cool animals seen were a puffer fish, lobster, giant starfish and a nurse shark! Wonderful shore dive with great visibility. Thanks to everyone who came out with us. ๐Ÿ

Movie and pizza ๐Ÿ• tonight in Student Center 213 @ 6 pm!!! ๐Ÿ 

We will be watching the movie Mission Blue. An Emmy award winning documentary about legendary oceanographer, marine biologist and environmentalist Sylvia Earle, and her campaign to create a global network of protected marine sanctuaries.

Last years screening, Chasing Coral, focused on the warming oceans and the subsequent bleaching of the worlds corals. Mission Blue focuses on themes such as over-fishing and pollution.

Trivia question: Is coral an animal or a plant?

Join the Dive Club in the Gamache-Kroger theater this Saturday (Nov 18th) at 3:00 pm for a screening of the award winning documentary Chasing Coral.

From the creators of the Emmy award winning documentary "Chasing Ice", comes "Chasing Coral". Released this year, this is a film documenting the rapid disappearance of the worlds coral reef systems due to a phenomenon known as coral bleaching. Divers have painstakingly taken underwater time lapse video over the span of several months in order to document the drastic changes that are happening right now.

I highly recommend this film to anyone who is fascinated by the ocean, anyone who wants to learn more about the problems facing the natural world today, and definitely anyone who wants to learn how they can help!
