✨ Easy At-Home Reading Activity ✨

One of our favorite warm-up activities is simple, quick, and only needs index cards!

Write a sentence with one word on each index card. Then mix up the cards and have your child put the sentence back in order.

For example:
The | dog | ran | fast.
Because | it's | raining, | we're | staying | inside.

Mix them up, then let your child rebuild the sentence.

This activity helps practice:
📖 Reading each word carefully
🧠 Sentence structure
🔤 Word order
👀 Tracking from left to right
✏️ Capital letters and punctuation
💬 Making sure a sentence “sounds right”

You can make it easier with short sentences or more challenging by adding longer sentences, adjectives, or punctuation cards.

Small activities like this build big reading skills! 💙

Scott Sonnon is a martial arts expert, fitness coach, author, inventor, wellness speaker, and dyslexia advocate.

But before all of those accomplishments, he was a child who struggled.
