Another Tuesday, another reminder to
📸 I had the opportunity to speak to high school students aspiring to pursue careers in the medical/health field about Sport Psychology! One technique I went over with them is the power of intentional breathing.
👩🏻✈️We are on autopilot a lot of the time these days balancing a million things and never slowing down. Taking our body out of automatic drive and into manual can reset your whole system!
🫁Think about it; our breathing changes when we are influenced by external or internal factors (exercise, nerves, fear, relaxation). why don’t we work that in reverse and use our breath to influence some factors?! 🧐 Our breathing is inextricably linked to our cognitive activity, why don’t we tap in and really pilot our own mind?
🎯Next time you are stressed, why don’t you try out this box breathing technique. Rumor is, Navy SEALs use this technique regularly for relaxation in stressful situations 😉🤫 There’s only 4 steps to this (like the 4 sides of a box… get it.. box breathing😜) Anyway, what you want to do is: Inhale for 4 seconds
Hold (your breath) for 4 seconds
Exhale 4 seconds
Hold 4 second
Repeat a few times - once you get that mind/body connection and slow that breathing you’ll feel the difference! Physically and mentally 🧘🏻♀️
