Happy National Volunteer Firefighter Day.

What does a volunteer firefighter look like?
It looks like your mailman. Your kid’s coach. The person bagging your groceries.

It looks like a spouse re-heating dinner at 11pm.
It looks like a boss covering a shift, no questions asked.
It looks like neighboring departments showing up to help, no questions asked.
On National Volunteer Firefighter Day, we’re grateful for the ripple effect. One person says “yes” to serving, and a whole community says “we’ve got you.”

Rio Fire, mutual aid partners, and every person & family behind them — we see you. We need you. We thank you. Small towns don’t survive without people like you.

Tonight we have growing concerns for flooding as heavy thunderstorms will fire up after 11PM and move across central IL.

This corridor may see an additional 2-5" tonight after 2-7" fell last night.

Please avoid travel late tonight in central IL and be aware that flooding is expected.

Severe storms are possible in the red circle with damaging winds the main risk, but a tornado is possible too. Timing is 11PM-4AM.

Another rough night ahead folks.
