MIDDAY RIO RANCHO TOASTMASTERS HAS BEEN DISBANDED

11/04/2021

NOTICE:
UNFORTUNATELY, Midday Rio Rancho Toastmasters has been suspended as an active club, for lack of active members. Current Members may decide to join another club (and can transfer their active membership via their new club application).

We have had a good run, but with COVID and no Face-to-Face meetings interest waned.

During Toastmaster meetings, all of our speeches, table topic discussions, and evaluations are timed. At Midday Rio Rancho Toastmasters, we have a member who does an incredible job of keeping us on track. No matter what other roles he is fulfilling - even speaking! - Jim Pechie consistently gets those virtual red, yellow, and green timing cards right on the screen for our speakers.

Attend one of our meetings and see Jim in action! Every Wednesday at noon via Zoom. Let us know you’d like to attend and we’ll get you a link.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Midday Rio Rancho Toastmasters! Today we had the good fortune to listen to a speech that gave us great tips for preparing a speech. Doug Mayton shared information on how to come up with a topic, audience and event considerations, keeping on topic, and more!

Our Table Topic questions had a theme! If you're thinking they were all around today's holiday, you're right!

If you'd like to join one of our meetings as a guest and see what we do, please send us a message or comment below. We'd love to see you in one of our virtual meetings.

Today’s word of the day was AFICIONADO and used throughout by every member in our meeting! Robin Vogsland, a word aficionado, gave us great information around the word Integrity in his speech "Thoughts about Living with INTEGRITY". Learn or rediscover words! Listen to and give great speeches! Join us every Wednesday at 12 noon via Zoom. Comment below or send us a message and we’ll get you the link.

Happy New Year from Midday Rio Rancho Toastmasters!

We had our first meeting of the year today and our theme for Table Topics was an aphorism or saying that has meaning to us or has stuck with us over the years.

Table Topics are one of the many fun parts of our meetings where we are able to work on quickly developing our thoughts and respond quickly to impromptu questions. It's a great way to get to know each other as well!

Do you have an aphorism, quote, or saying that you love, has stuck with you over the years, or has special meaning? Share with us in the comments!

WHAT DOES THE GRAMMARIAN DO in a Toastmasters Meeting?
Every Meeting has about 10 roles to fill. Half of these exist to give useful feedback to the speakers (& teach us listening skills):
1) TIMER (timing speeches confirms hitting target time range),
2) VOTE COUNTER (for best Speaker+Evaluator+Table Topic),
3) EVALUATORS (report good aspects + ways to improve speech)
4) GENERAL EVALUATOR (gives review of the whole meeting).

5) GRAMMARIAN (and Ahh-Counter). Every speech in Toastmasters is evaluated by the GRAMMARIAN-of-the-day who listens carefully to each speaker and prepares a brief evaluation of their use of language. The GRAMMARIAN duties are...
a) Reports who used the Word-of-the-Day;
b) Notes particularly good use of language like: good vocabulary, pleasing and effective phrasing, and language that has impact--with specific examples;
c) Notes areas for improvement by speakers: Ahhs, Umms, incomplete words, unnecessary filler words, double starts on words, changing thoughts mid-sentence, bad grammar, etc..
