That’s a wrap on our Workforce Training Program!

Our fourth and final session brought everything together. Trainees had the opportunity to reflect on what they learned throughout the program and practice communicating those ideas with others.

Over four sessions, they experienced forest management, fire resilience, restoration work, career exploration, and plenty of hands-on learning right here at Alder Creek.

We’re incredibly thankful to our trainees and everyone who shared their time and knowledge throughout this pilot program.

Workforce Training — Session 3

Time to put some of that learning into action!

Session 3 brought our trainees back into the field for hands-on restoration work at Alder Creek. We spent the day working along the trail, reducing vegetation and fuels, managing woody debris, and putting forest management concepts into practice.

There’s nothing quite like learning by actually getting your hands dirty.

Something is growing at Alder Creek… and so are our plans for October 24!

Join us on October 24 for a big Fire Resilience Celebration at the forest. We’ll be bringing together community members, students, and local partners for a day focused on our forests, fire resilience, and the work happening right here at Alder Creek.

We’re still putting all the pieces together, but expect opportunities to get outside, explore the forest, learn about fire resilience, and connect with the people doing this work in our community.

Workforce Training — Session 2

For our second session, we were joined by Lace Anna from UCC for a day focused on forest management and fire resilience.

Trainees explored different areas of Alder Creek, looked at forest conditions, and started thinking through what management practices could help create a healthier, more fire-resilient forest.

This weekend we officially kicked off the Alder Creek Community Forest Workforce Pilot Program with an incredible first day in the field!

Our trainees joined us for an introduction to fire resilience and forest stewardship before heading into the Ash Creek area with Cow Creek Silviculture Forester Wade Christensen. Together, we explored how different forest management practices influence wildfire behavior, forest health, and long-term resilience.

Walking through both treated and untreated forest stands gave everyone the opportunity to see firsthand how fuels reduction, stand structure, and previous management decisions can shape the future of our forests.

A huge thank you to Wade for sharing his knowledge and experience with our trainees. Learning directly from professionals working in our local forests is an invaluable part of this program.

This is just the beginning! Over the next several weeks our trainees will continue building the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to become the next generation of natural resource professionals.

Last week, Alder Creek Community Forest was proud to host a chainsaw safety and operation class led by Umpqua Community College.

Participants gained hands-on experience and valuable skills while working in a real forest setting. A special thank you to Mark from BLM for being on-site and sharing his knowledge and expertise with the group.

Opportunities like these help connect people to the land while building practical skills that support stewardship, forestry, and natural resource careers.

🌲 What an incredible day at Alder Creek Community Forest! 🌲

Thank you to everyone who came out to learn, explore, and spend time in the forest with us. From the kids’ treasure hunts to conversations about fire resilience and forest stewardship, it was a day filled with learning, laughter, and community.

A huge thank you to Grayback Forestry, Umpqua Community College, Douglas Small Woodland Association, DFPA, and Jime's Hotdogs for helping make this event possible. We couldn’t have done it without your support.

We are grateful for everyone who attended and can’t wait to see you at the next ACCF event!

🔥 Fire & Forest Community Day is Tomorrow! 🌲

Join us at Alder Creek Community Forest from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM for a day of learning, exploration, and fun for the whole family.

We’ll have local organizations and natural resource professionals on-site sharing information about wildfire resilience, forest health, conservation, and career opportunities in forestry and fire management.

We’re also excited to have Grayback Forestry on-site conducting live firefighter training demonstrations throughout the day. Visitors will get a firsthand look at the skills, teamwork, and equipment used in wildland firefighting, including a fire hose relay race that should be a lot of fun to watch!

Other activities include:

🥾 Guided and self-guided trail opportunities
🎨 Kids’ activities and art table
🔥 Fire resilience and forest management information

Big thank you to Umpqua Community College for bringing their soil science class out to Alder Creek Community Forest!

Students spent time out in the field getting hands-on experience with soil sampling, observation, and learning more about the important role healthy soils play in our forests and ecosystems.
