The village went to Italy!

A little back story: I started with this family almost 4 years ago as their DOULA - and my goal is to add to the village. Not only does this show that they see the value but it also shows that I AM apart of the village. I AM a trusted person. And I DO support families from birth and beyond.

Over our time together there have been many milestones, changes, and lotsssss of trips. Now we’ve landed ourselves living in Georgia!

I can’t wait to see where things not only take this family but I’m most excited to meet other nannies and doulas, new families, and connections.

Sleep training does NOT have to mean you’re letting your baby cry it out. 🗣️

Now that that’s out the way, let’s talk about what sleep training CAN look like…

Typically, it should start with what the priority is for you and your family. Schedule? Sleep for Parents? Independence? Etc.

Sleep training (which I wish it wasn’t called that btw) is about teaching them to self soothe when they’re in between sleep cycles, building a schedule, learning your baby’s cues, and most times it’s to keep some sanity for the adults.

It is not ignoring your baby’s needs, letting them cry for hours, not feeding all night or any of the horrible stuff I’m often seeing moms scared of when we talk about sleep training. And we most definitely don’t sleep train a two month old BUT you can begin to introduce new habits.

There’s no one way to do it becauuuuuuse it should align with the needs and dynamic of you and your family. ✨

Black birthworkers have always been at the heart of birth—guiding, advocating, and protecting our families.

From the traditional midwives to today’s doulas fighting against the Black maternal health crisis, our work is important for many reasons. We are doing everything we can to ensure our communities thrive.
