The 2026 Virginia Community Criminal Justice Board Forum is coming September 2–4, 2026, in Charlottesville, VA.

Virginia’s Community Criminal Justice Boards play a vital role in strengthening local justice systems, fostering collaboration, and tackling cross-system challenges. This 2.5 day in-person forum—hosted by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services—will help CCJB teams build practical skills, enhance board operations, and develop tools they can immediately apply in their communities.

Join us in congratulating Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office on their recent recertification as a Certified Crime Prevention Community (CCPC).

One of the first of its kind in the nation, Virginia's Certified Crime Prevention Community (CCPC) program encourages localities to develop and implement collaborative community safety plans within a flexible framework designed by the New Partnership Commission for Community Safety.

CCPC provides an ongoing process by which communities can reassess and update their plans to address emerging community safety issues. To obtain certification, a locality must meet 12 core community safety elements/strategies augmented by a minimum of seven approved optional elements.

This week, DCJS staff attended the beam signing ceremony for The Heights, a new domestic violence survivor campus being developed by YWCA Richmond in Highland Springs.

Community partners, stakeholders, funders, and supporters were invited to sign a steel beam that will become part of the building's elevator shaft—a lasting symbol of the collaboration and commitment making this project possible.

When completed, The Heights will provide 19 affordable apartments for survivors and their families, along with a new Sprout School campus, creating a safe and supportive community for those rebuilding their lives.

The need for these services continues to grow. YWCA Richmond's domestic violence hotline receives more than 14,000 calls each year, and calls have increased by 25 percent. Demand for emergency housing has also risen significantly, underscoring the importance of projects like The Heights.
