Before students return on Monday, our teachers are getting ready for the year ahead 💛

This week, the Music Orchard Richmond team came together for teacher orientation hosted by the Mary Frances Youth Center, including an emotion coaching session led by Dre’Mon Miller and Vaughn Garland.

We’re excited to welcome our students back and begin another year of learning, connection, and music together 🎶

For National Nonprofit Day, we’re giving you a closer look at what your support helped make possible this year 💛

During the 2025–2026 program year, Music Orchard Richmond served 192 students, a 60% increase from the year before. We delivered nearly 1,428 hours of music coaching, while 61% of students received access at no cost.

Behind every number is a student getting more time with an instrument, more opportunities to learn, and more access to music education across the Richmond community.

Enjoy a few moments from our first invitation-only Vines & Virtuosos fundraising event! 🍷🎶

We had such a wonderful evening at Gramophone Winery on August 6! A big thank you to the Richmond Chamber Players for being part of it. It was amazing to see our students not only perform alongside professional musicians, but also share what they’ve learned with so many people who came out to support Music Orchard Richmond.

The night also made a real impact for our students. Support from Vines & Virtuosos will cover nearly 80 hours of music instruction that MOR can provide completely free of charge. We also welcomed at least 25 new faces into the Music Orchard community!

Thank you to everyone who joined us, donated, performed, sponsored, and helped make our first Vines & Virtuosos so memorable. We’re so grateful you were part of it 💛

Calling all young string musicians! 🎻

Music Orchard Richmond is offering scholarships to help eligible students participate in VCU’s SRO Strings Intensive. Students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch can have their registration cost fully covered by MOR.

**Please note: receiving or applying for a scholarship does not register you for SRO. Students must complete registration separately through VCU.

Music Orchard Richmond is looking for Practice Mentors to encourage students as they work through the music they've been learning in their lessons. You don't have to be an expert or even play an instrument. What matters most is showing up, offering encouragement, and helping students build confidence week after week.

Practice Mentors meet with students once a week during the semester, making this a meaningful volunteer opportunity for anyone looking to give back. High school and college students are especially encouraged to apply, and service or credit hours may be available.

We’re excited to share that Music Orchard Richmond has received a $500 Spark Good Local Grant from Walmart!

This generous support from the Walmart Supercenter at Eastgate Town Center (Store #7032) will help us continue bringing meaningful music education opportunities to students in our community.

A Virginia-raised classical pianist, producer, and creative professional, Madeleine brings experience in marketing, graphic design, and web development to support our mission of expanding access to high-quality music education across the Greater Richmond Region.
