Mark your calendar for the 2026 TNCS Learning Symposium!

What does it mean to truly understand how students learn-and how can research help us better support students who think and learn differently?

On Friday, October 2nd, The New Community School welcomes educators, families, and professionals to campus for a day of learning, connection, and meaningful conversation.

Our keynote speaker, Nancy Lewis Hennessy, M.Ed., will lead “Fact Not Fiction: The Science of Reading Includes Comprehension!”- an exploration of the research behind language, cognition, knowledge-building, and comprehension.

On Friday, students in Grades 5–11 headed out for one of our favorite TNCS traditions: Class Bonding Trips! With teachers and classmates by their side, students spent the day exploring, laughing, talking, and getting to know one another beyond the walls of the classroom.

At The New Community School, we believe strong relationships are at the heart of a great school experience. That’s why we make time early in the year for students to build connections without the pressure of assignments, grades, or deadlines.

Our students came back with new memories, stronger connections, and deeper relationships with their peers and teachers- a wonderful way to begin the school year together. It’s traditions like these that help make the TNCS experience so unique!

Today, our seniors spent time working alongside their 12th grade teachers and College & Career Counselor to tackle college applications, personal essays, and everything in between.

With students at different stages of the college application process, the day looked a little different for everyone. Some were drafting and revising essays, others were working through applications, and some were just getting started. What they all had in common was access to direct feedback, guidance, and support to help them move forward with confidence.

At TNCS, we know the college application process can feel overwhelming. Having experienced teachers and experts at the ready to answer questions, offer feedback, and help students take the next step makes all the difference.

Parents Nights are almost here!

We’re looking forward to welcoming TNCS parents and families back to campus next week for an evening of connection, community, and a closer look at their student’s day-to-day experience.

Upper School Parents Night: Wednesday, September 2
Middle School Parents Night: Thursday, September 3

Parents will begin the evening together in the Wellness Center gym before heading out to walk their student’s schedule, visit classrooms, and hear from teachers. And a friendly reminder: wear comfortable shoes- our students walk a lot every day!

Overflow parking will be available across the street at the BAPS building parking lot at 4204 Hermitage Road, with a shuttle available to campus.

We look forward to welcoming parents to campus for an evening of learning, conversation, and getting to know the educators who support their students each day!

The first day of school is complete!

Today, our Sabers stepped into their classrooms, received their planners, met with their advisors, caught up with friends and teachers, and began settling into the rhythm of a new school year.

We know the first day can bring a mix of emotions. For some students, a new year can come with anxiety, uncertainty, or a little uneasiness about what’s ahead. That’s why we’re especially excited to watch our students find their footing, build connections, discover new interests, and find their place within the TNCS community.

Welcome back, Sabers! We’re so glad you’re here!

Today, a new group of Sabers got their first taste of life at TNCS!

New students and their families joined us on campus for New Student Orientation, getting familiar with their new school before the first day. Students walked through their class schedules alongside student ambassadors, met their teachers, explored their classrooms, and got a feel for what their days will look like this year.

While students were getting to know their new surroundings, parents learned more about the resources and support available to them and their students throughout the TNCS experience.

There’s a lot to take in when you’re starting somewhere new- but today was all about making the unfamiliar feel a little more familiar. We’re so excited to officially welcome our newest Sabers to the TNCS community!

There’s no better way to kick off a new school year than with our community!

Yesterday, TNCS families -new and returning- came together for one of our favorite traditions: our Family Social! Families had the chance to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new friends, spend time with advisors and faculty, and enjoy an evening of games, Kona Ice, and plenty of fun.

With the first day of school just around the corner, it was the perfect opportunity to welcome new families into our community and bring our entire TNCS family together before the year officially begins.

We’re so excited for all that’s ahead- and even more excited to begin it together!

At TNCS, we believe great teaching is never finished. This summer, our faculty read 'How We Learn' by Benedict Carey and recently gathered together to discuss what stood out, what challenged their thinking, and what they can apply in their classrooms.

Teachers from across grade levels and disciplines had the opportunity to share ideas, learn from one another, and consider how the science of learning can inform the way we teach our students.

At The New Community School, our faculty is committed to continually learning, collaborating, and finding new ways to better serve our students!
