At Skytown Preschool, we believe children learn through play: By problem-solving, creating, collaborating, and exploring the world around them.
Our role as educators is to observe closely and provide meaningful materials and experiences that help children deepen and expand their ideas. ✨
Want to experience this philosophy in action? Come experience it at SKYJAM this weekend! 🎶🎨👨👩👧👦

Risk Taking & Trusting Yourself 🌱
At Skytown, we try not to turn children into performers for adults. Instead of “show me how high you can climb,” we give children space to explore at their own pace and trust their own instincts.
Recently, a child climbed up high, paused, and decided it was too much for her. She chose a lower jump instead and proudly said, “I’m not afraid of heights anymore!”
Sometimes confidence comes from going higher. Sometimes it comes from knowing your limit. Both matter.

We’ve got to hand it to the kids at Skytown—when it comes to play-based learning, they sure aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty!
Children’s paint-soaked busy hands, thoughtful helping hands, and handfuls of sand attest to the truly hands-on, immersive learning that happens here every day.
At Skytown we know that children’s tactile experiments with paint, rocks, sticks, and blocks go hand in hand with fine motor skill development, spatial awareness, and creative problem-solving. And when we (the adults) witness the children themselves striding hand in hand through puddles, puzzles, and projects, we can’t help but feel profoundly touched.
Don’t worry. There are plenty of sinks on hand for routine hand-washing!

Navigating a co-op with a newborn can be a big transition, which is why Skytown prioritizes supporting our “superhero” families with maternity/paternity leave, community meal trains, and even playdate trains!
One of our parents returned to the classroom this week with her newborn, and she had so much gratitude to share. Her reflections perfectly capture why we do what we do, even when life becomes challenging:
“Thank you to everyone for the time off from participating, it meant a lot. While time away was really nice and participation is really demanding, participation this week reminded me very forcibly why I chose co-op life:
-To see my kids at work—learning to interact with peers, learning to use and take care of their bodies and not have their school day be a mystery to me.
-To see your kids’ development too (and there’s been a lot since I left!).
-And for the insights about child development shared at the various meetings—legitimately had an ‘aha’ moment this morning about my son’s behavior at home.
Thank you everyone for making our school what it is, and thanks for the opportunity to tune in to my children’s childhood in a very deep way.”

The sky is the limit when we’re together. 💪
Looking out at our community during the Open House, one thing is clear: our future is incredibly bright. 😎
Together we’re reaching new heights this year and building a school full of love for our kids. We love you Skytown 🫶
