A giving circle created by and for civic minded African American men to have a greater philanthropic impact in the Metro Richmond community.

Members contribute a minimum of $1,100 to participate in an investment pool to be awarded to one nonprofit selected through an application process. UJIMA LEGACY FUND seeks to support projects that will have a positive impact on youth and young adults (ages 12 to 21 years ) in our region, with a particular emphasis on underserved youth populations. It is anticipated that one grant of up to $20,000 will be awarded in 2014.

General information

Each member will contribute a minimum of $1,100 ($1,000 will go towards the grant award, $100 will be applied to administrative cost for The Community Foundation to manage the giving circle).

Each member will have one vote in the grant selection process.

Several members will be asked to serve on the grant selection committee.

Members are asked to attend an annual business meeting event to announce the grant recipient.

GRANT PRIORITIES
Ujima Legacy Fund seeks to support 501(c)(3) nonprofits in Metro Richmond that empower youth through education related initiatives. Education related initiatives include but are not limited to: Afterschool/out of school time programming; Career development; College preparation; Entrepreneurship; Financial Literacy; Literacy; Mentoring; Technology training; Tutoring. Funds may also be used for capacity building efforts of nonprofits that provide these services.

Proposal deadline is FRIDAY MARCH 7, 2014.

The grant recipient will be selected by a vote of the Ujima Legacy Fund membership, after a detailed process of reviewing the grant proposals that are received. More information, including grant guidelines and eligibility, can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/UjimaApplication
