Fact Friday 💡
Horses really do have enormous eyes — in fact, their eyes are the biggest of any land animal! 👀✨
Here’s why that’s so cool:
👀 Horses have great night vision. In the wild, this helped them stay safe from predators at dawn and dusk.
👀 Their large eyes let in more light, which helps them notice even small movements.
👀 They can spot movement from far away — even behind them!
Next time you look into your horse’s eye, just remember — it’s one of the biggest in the whole land animal world!

Meet the Founders of Palina's Ponies, David & Karoline Reichert 💜
✨ David grew up in a horse family in Germany and started competing from an early age in Dressage and Jumping. He brings decades of experience in the show ring — not just in riding and training, but in understanding how to build programs that actually develop horse and rider long term. He’s passionate about creating correct foundations, confident partnerships, and competitive success without cutting corners. He even created an entire horse show organization, The United Dressage and Jumping Club, to help riders grow and learn without cutting corners.
✨ Karoline also grew up in a horse family in Germany and started competing from an early age in Dressage and Jumping. She worked for Show Jumping Olympic Champion Lars Nieberg riding and managing many different horses. She gained a lot of knowledge and experience from being in this kind of highly professional environment for several years. Karoline is specialized in young horse training, recovery horse training after injuries and training of difficult horses. Karoline has always been drawn to the details — the feel of a program, the culture of a barn, the way horses are produced and cared for behind the scenes. Her focus is on thoughtful development, strong horsemanship, and creating an environment where both ponies and riders can truly thrive.
Palina’s Ponies reflects everything they believe in:
✨ Quality over shortcuts
✨ Education over ego
✨ Community over competition
They don't just 'run' Palina's Ponies, they're horse people through and through. 💜

Horsemanship is such an important part of becoming a great rider. It’s not only the hours sitting in the saddle, it goes way beyond that!
We are happy to have so many parents who appreciate and understand the concept of our riding school.
These days, everybody seems to have grooms, but “R” judge and trainer Geoff Case thinks many riders are missing the quiet time spent simply doing for their horses. “Horsemanship doesn’t just happen in the saddle,” he said. “It’s everything you do around the horse that teaches you who they are.”
Case believes that the best riders, the ones who seem effortlessly in sync with their mounts, aren’t just great athletes. They’re great caretakers.
Case came up in a generation where riders did everything—groomed, bathed, wrapped, and tacked up their own horses. He still believes those habits are the foundation of success. “When you groom your horse, you start noticing things,” he said. “You feel the muscle tone. You feel if something’s tight. You learn their reactions.”
That kind of attention builds awareness and empathy, two things that can’t be taught in a lesson. “If you only ever show up to get on, you’re missing half the education,” he said. “It’s in the details. How they stand, how they breathe, how they look at you when you walk up with the halter.”
He encourages his students to spend as much time on the ground as they do in the saddle. “The more you do yourself, the more connected you are,” he said. “You start riding differently because you understand who’s under you.”
Case recalled working with Peter Wylde, who won the World Championship and an Olympic gold medal, but still did all his own care. “Peter was the perfect example,” Case said. “He could have had ten grooms if he wanted, but he still groomed, tacked, cooled out—everything. He knew every bump on those horses.”
That level of attention was about pride and partnership. “Peter didn’t separate the care from the riding,” Case said. “He knew they were part of the same thing.”
For Case, that mindset is what defines real horsemanship. “When you spend time doing the basics yourself, you stop thinking of the horse as a piece of equipment,” he said. “You start thinking of them as your teammate.”

👀 Did you know that horses use ear direction, tail swishes, and even nostril flares to “talk” to each other (and to you)?
Horses can't talk like we do of course, but they are always communicating with us if you pay attention! Next time you come to the barn, ask your instructor what your horse is saying to you with their body language!

🦴 Did you know that even though horses are SO much bigger than us, they only have one less bone than humans? Isn't that crazy? 🤍🦴
