Congratulations to Chief Jo’s very own Mr. Green on being named Richland School District’s Rookie of the Year! 🦅🎉
We are so proud to have him as part of our Eagle Family. His dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to our students make this honor so well deserved. Congratulations, Mr. Green!

RISE Award: Rookie of the Year

Congratulations to Cley Green, Math/Science Teacher at Chief Joseph Middle School, who has been named Richland School District’s Rookie of the Year and is being honored with a special RISE Award!

In his first year of teaching, Cley has already made an incredible impact. He has worked closely with the science and math departments, instructional coaches and staff to create engaging lessons, strengthen inclusionary practices and provide equity and access for all students.

Cley is innovative with technology and lesson design, always looking for ways to improve and better meet the needs of his students. He has also gone above and beyond outside the classroom, serving as an assistant boys wrestling coach, taking over as head coach of the first-year girls wrestling program, and preparing to lead Flight Crew, Chief Jo’s mentorship program for incoming sixth-grade students.

Most importantly, Cley has built strong relationships with students, staff and families, and has been an outstanding addition to the Chief Jo family.

Congratulations, Cley! We are proud to recognize you as RSD’s Rookie of the Year!

The RISE Award, sponsored by Gesa Credit Union, honors RSD staff members who exemplify Innovation, Service and Excellence.

There will be no school on Friday, May 22.

May 22 was built into the district calendar as a potential snow day. Since we did not need to use any snow days this winter, students and staff will enjoy an extra-long Memorial Day weekend.

I wanted to share some celebrations with you about or Math is Cool Club! Students meet on a weekly basis & complete high level math tasks & activities with Joe Strasser & Russ Tonkyn (long time volunteer that recently retired from PNNL)!

They have competed 3 times this year & one of our 8th grade teams just competed in the state competition (Math is Cool Masters) at Moses Lake High School on Saturday! For context, each competition is approx. 5 hours and requires a lot of focus & stamina!

This week was filled with meaningful opportunities to engage with our community, valued partners, and CJMS families.
On Wednesday, we hosted our Spring Family Night—an evening dedicated to showcasing our Electives Department and the incredible talents of our students. We were also delighted to welcome musical guests from Jason Lee, Jefferson, Three Rivers Homelink and Sacajawea Elementary Schools. In addition, several community partners joined us to share valuable resources with families, including Hanford High JROTC, Richland Lutheran Church, the Richland Public Library, Goodwill, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Club, and Key Club volunteers. A special thank you to our partners at Lamb Weston for bringing the fry truck and generously serving French fries to more than 200 community members.
On Thursday, CJMS hosted a track meet at Hanford High School. We are grateful to HHS for the use of their facilities, and we extend our appreciation to the coaches and volunteers whose efforts ensured the event ran smoothly.
This morning, CJMS hosted our annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, organized by Mrs. Crider’s Cooking Club. We extend our sincere gratitude to the many volunteers who continually give their time, energy, and resources to support our students. Your generosity and commitment make a lasting impact on our school community.

Happy Secretary Appreciation Day!

Today we celebrated our incredible secretaries, Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Catone and Mrs. Ramsey!

All across the board, these ladies truly embody what it means to be a CJMS Eagle – they are kind to all, respectful in all situations, and they bend over backwards here to make CJMS a positive place for staff, students, families, and community members.

We are so lucky to have them as the first faces people see when they come to CJMS!

Thanks for EVERYTHING you do for EVERY EAGLE, EVERY DAY!
