Mental Health Check-In 🧠💙

Let’s talk about the part of dyslexia that people don’t see…

Behind the reading struggles, missed spelling words, and homework battles, there’s often something deeper going on.

Many children with undiagnosed or unsupported dyslexia quietly carry:

✨ Anxiety about being called on in class
✨ Shame when they compare themselves to peers
✨ Frustration that comes out as “behavior”
✨ Low self-esteem from feeling “not smart”
✨ School avoidance or even depression

When a child is trying twice as hard just to keep up, it takes a toll — mentally and emotionally.

Here’s the truth:
Dyslexia is not a measure of intelligence. It’s a different way of processing language. With the right support, these kids thrive — not just academically, but emotionally too.

A simple mental health check-in can make a huge difference:

💬 “What feels hardest at school right now?”
💬 “When do you feel proud of yourself?”
💬 “How can I help you feel more confident?”

Sometimes kids don’t need solutions first — they need to feel seen, heard, and understood.

Early support = stronger readers + healthier self-esteem. That’s the goal. Always.

If your child is showing signs of stress around reading, don’t wait. Support changes everything. 💫

Did You Know? Channing Tatum Has Dyslexia 🎬✨

Channing Tatum struggled in school and has been open about having dyslexia and ADHD. Reading didn’t come easily, and traditional classrooms weren’t built for how his brain worked.

But here’s the plot twist 👉 his challenges didn’t stop him — they shaped him.

Through creativity, perseverance, and thinking outside the box, Channing built a wildly successful career as an actor, producer, author, and entrepreneur. He’s even spoken about how dyslexia pushed him to rely on strengths like imagination, movement, and problem-solving.

💡 Dyslexia doesn’t mean less capable. It means differently capable.
📚 Reading struggles do not predict intelligence or future success.
🌟 With the right support, kids with dyslexia can thrive — in school and far beyond it.

Your child’s story is still being written… and it might be a blockbuster. 🎥💪

If your child has dyslexia, those words usually don’t come from nowhere.
They come from working twice as hard… and still feeling behind. 💔

Here’s how to respond in a way that builds confidence—not breaks it:

✨ During homework or reading struggles:
Keep it calm and grounded.
“I know this is hard. Dyslexia makes reading tricky—but it doesn’t change how smart you are.”

✨ When it comes up repeatedly or out of the blue:
That’s a signal, not a phase.
“I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way. Feeling frustrated doesn’t mean you’re stupid.”

✨ Open the conversation:
“It hurts my heart when you say that, because I know it’s not true.
Tell me what’s making you feel this way.”

🚫 What not to say:
• “You’re fine, stop worrying”
• “Everyone struggles”
• “Your brother didn’t have this problem”

Even well-meaning comments can land as dismissal.

💡 What kids with dyslexia need to hear:
• Their brain works differently—not poorly
• Reading struggles ≠ intelligence
• Their strengths matter just as much as their challenges

How we respond in these moments becomes their inner voice.

Let’s make sure it’s a kind one. 💛

FACT: It’s okay to read slowly—especially for students with dyslexia.

According to the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity, many dyslexic readers will be slower readers for life—and that’s not a flaw. Speed is not the goal. Accuracy and understanding matter more. 🙌

If a child is reading below a mid–second grade level:
➡️ Don’t push speed
➡️ Focus on reading words correctly
➡️ Build comprehension with strategies like drawing scenes ✏️ or writing a sentence about what they read

Dyslexia doesn’t disappear in adulthood. Teaching kids how to work with their brains now sets them up to navigate the world with confidence later. 💪🧠

Slow reading ≠ low intelligence.
Different brain. Different strengths. Big potential. 🌟

Here’s the truth—dyslexia isn’t a secret to hide. It’s part of who your child is, just like their sense of humor, their kindness, or their wild hair days. When kids are told to keep it quiet, they hear one thing loud and clear: this is something to be ashamed of. And nope… we’re not doing that.

💬 Try this instead:
“Your friends already see how creative and capable you are. Sharing your dyslexia can help them understand you even better.”

Confidence grows in the open—not in the shadows. Dyslexia is not a flaw. It’s part of the full, amazing picture. 💙✨

Research shows that reading faster does not equal understanding more—especially for children with dyslexia. Timed reading often measures how quickly a child can decode, not how well they comprehend. When speed is pushed too early, confidence drops and anxiety goes up.

This Christmas, let’s retire the stopwatch.
Give kids time to read, process, and understand—at their pace.

Santa can race the clock.
Your child doesn’t need to. 🎄✨

Validation and understanding help kids feel seen instead of broken.
Encouragement builds resilience when learning feels hard.
A positive environment makes mistakes safe—and growth possible.
Parental advocacy ensures kids get what they need, not just what’s convenient.
Celebrating every success builds confidence and motivation.
Focusing on strengths reminds them they are more than their struggles.

These aren’t “extras.”
They’re the foundation. 🎄
