Such a good talk and great reminders!
We are still so amped after our chat with Mona Delahooke, Ph.D. yesterday! ❤️💛
What a wonderful way to spend an hour! It was glorious for so many reasons! We waited a year to have this virtual cuppa with our dear friend. In that time, we sent her all of our positive energy and she put all of her energy into healing and hard work to ensure the meet up would happen. We would not have missed it for anything.
Mostly, it was just so wonderful to be back in Mona's presence sharing thoughts, ideas, tools, and strategies to help move the world at large* towards more authentic and validating regulatory supports!
It's an hour full of insights and wisdom - punctuated by great big smiles and laughs.
We are so grateful to have had the opportunity and are truly thrilled to be able to offer you the chance to catch a replay of it.
We'll put a link to stream the talk in the comments. It is available only through 4 October 2024. So, make sure to watch it soon!
*world at large - means people signed in from Serbia, India, Italy, England, Ireland, Lithuania, Singapore, Taiwan (at 2am), South Africa, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, US, Mexico, Chile and sooooooo many states.... and so many other places that didn't register as we scanned the chat during the talk. BUT - WOW! This is amazing.
Image description - screen shots of Jac and Amy smiling and laughing (Amy asked Jac what she thought we were doing. Jac said-" I'm smiling, you're laughing, so it really could be any moment.") and a gorgeous image of Mona holding up - Energy: The Framework, Tools, Strategies & Logic to Support Regulation! What a great moment for us all 😍

New research on on intensive behavioral therapy
New Study Suggests Higher Amounts of Intervention May Not Be More Helpful for Children on the Autism Spectrum | Newsroom After a thorough systematic analysis, Micheal Sandbank, PhD, at the UNC School of Medicine and other researchers across the United States found that evidence was lacking that higher intensity interventions provided increased benefits for young autistic children.

Let them play!
'All work, no independent play' cause of children's declining mental health A new study suggests the rise in mental health disorders in children and teens is attributed to a decline over decades in opportunities for them to play, roam and engage in activities independent of direct oversight and control by adults. Although well intended, adults' drive to guide and protect ch...

Baby sleep… the conversation and stress of so many new parents. Looks like more acceptance of our littles development is needed. ❤️
The science of healthy baby sleep Sleep regressions aren't real. Night wakes are normal, and protect against SIDS. And 12 hours of sleep isn't a gold standard. Here's what scientists want us to know about baby sleep.

The data says it all.
I'm about 75% of the way through making the charts for the 2022 Autism Survey results (11,212 respondents, 7,491 of whom were autistic), and today I reached the ABA question. Turns out I had to alter the Y-axis to accommodate just how despised ABA is within the autistic community.
(And honestly, with approaching half of *non*-autistic professionals strongly disagreeing too - this group traditionally being the ones most listened to about these things - I'm getting progressively surprised that the practice of ABA remains legal, let alone considered effective or ethical.)
Oh, and for those wondering what the results are from the hundreds of autistic respondents who personally experienced ABA themselves (including those aged 0-19 who experienced "new ABA"), don't worry. Their charts are coming too.
If you don't mind spoilers though, they're not too dissimilar from the above. -Chris
