Every good party starts with a good guest list and ours was chock full of outstanding Mountaineers and friends 🐴🥂

To wrap up our Horses & Happy Hour recap we want to thank the alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of our program that shared their evening with us. The guest list was as diverse and eclectic as the scope of work of the equine studies program. We had everyone from people that ran into a burning building for us to those that made sure we were moved back into a perfect barn on time and in budget, and everyone in between. It was the perfect way to cap off the rebuild and we are so glad we got to celebrate with you all. If you didn’t make it go to our stories for a full replay of that evening.

This barn is proof that if you have vision, surround yourself with the right people, and work tirelessly you can build something really meaningful. Every single person that showed up for us (in person or in spirit) at Horses & Happy Hour own a piece of that.

May your comeback be greater than your setback🌟💪🏻

We also want to thank the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Department for helping manage parking for a few hours before joining us as guests 🫶🏻

We are so lucky to have great local partners in our community that are always willing to embrace and support us when needed.

We are still dreaming about Horses & Happy Hour 💭🐴

This event took months of planning, and many helpful hands the weeks and days leading up to the event. Here are a few shoutouts that were especially critical to us pulling it off:

🐴 Our equine events management summer class students flushed out logistics, the student led tours, and helped with facility prep and hospitality at the event.
🍾 Our working students and fall 2026 teaching assistants worked every spare moment they had to clean up from a horse show, set up for a horse show, and clean up for this event all in a 3.5 day window on top of navigating the first week of classes. You also saw them volunteering at the event and welcoming you to the barn, answering questions, and providing opportunities for horse interactions.
🐴 RT volunteered his time, skills, and equipment to weedeat fencelines, powerwash, and do general labor that we didn’t have time to tackle alone in the tight time frame.
🍾 Carrie See, Preston County Agriculture & Natural Resources Extension Agent, asked how she could help and joined right in with the rest of us neurotically cleaning the barn on Wednesday and helping with hospitality on Thursday.
🐴 Lindsay Willey, WVU Honors College, is not just a friend but an outstanding communicator and helped us with the alumni profiles you saw featured in addition to being a sounding board throughout the planning process.
🍾 Our college administrators and Foundation staff for trusting our vision and supporting the event.

We couldn’t have done it without you 🫶🏻

More pics to follow this week but swipe through to read some of our alumni features and see a bit of the action.

We don’t know what happened last night but it looks like the horses had themselves a party! We are still cleaning up and recovering, but if you are stabling for the Mountaineer Open Horse Show this weekend the barn is open and ready for you to move in any time.

The show office will open today from 2-4pm and again Saturday and Sunday at 7am.

More to come on whatever this was next week 🎉

We are this excited to welcome Horses & Happy Hour guests to the farm Thursday afternoon 🍾

We have gotten a few repeat questions that need answering for everyone on the confirmed guest list:

✨ The dress code is snappy casual, so do not feel the need to dress up like this picture might indicate. We will be changing out of our barn clothes to our good jeans, a nice shirt, nothing more.
✨ When you arrive please park in the gravel lots below the outdoor arena and Multipurpose Building or by the camper hookups and leave enough egress for a truck and long horse trailer to get in and out (we have some horse show participants moving in early to join us). Please reserve the paved spots by the Ed Center for ADA parking.
✨ Check in at the Ed Center first. You will get your drink tickets there and get the lay of the land (aka where the food, drinks, and horses are).
✨ We realized that some of you have never been on property so we have very chill, very optional student guided tours leaving from the donor sign in the plaza area at 5:00, 5:30, and 6:00 if you want to see more. If you are super familiar with what we do then just come hang with us.

We are so excited to visit with and thank everyone that supported us throughout our rebuild efforts, before, and beyond. If you made the list, know you are important to us and we can’t wait to see you. If you can’t make the trip (alumni we are talking about you!) you know you are welcome any time 💛🐴💙

We had the best time hosting Randall, Will, and Grace from Senator Justice’s Office as part of their month of service throughout West Virginia. It wasn’t all petting horses and feeding peppermints (although there were many!), they also helped us set the dressage arena for this weekend’s horse show, groom some of our teaching horses, and learn more about what all goes on at the JW Ruby Research Farm.

They loved their time here as much as we loved having them. Randall realized what we all already know - that Waylon is very special; Will realized how beautiful this farm and Preston County is; and Grace realized she wants/needs to get back to her horse girl roots.

Thank you to Senator Justice for supporting this kind of service to us and the other non profits around the state ✨
