I've always been an advocate for rigorous learning yet paradoxically the more we learn the more potential there is for our concepts and conditioned ways of thinking to obscure clear perception. For this reason, I think of everything I have learned or am learning as a latent resource. Whatever it is: a technique, a method, a system, a new understanding - if it's fixed on the surface of the lens of perception it will always obscure the clarity of that perception. The truth is I can't see you as you are when I'm looking through a lens clouded by my preconditioning.
When I'm brave enough to let go of what I know and to simply be in the moment, with myself or another person, if what I've learned is needed, it arises, unbidden, percolating up to the surface to serve the moment. And when it's no longer needed, it returns to that latent resource. Sometimes, remarkably, a new insight arises that is completely fresh and exciting.
There is a fluidity to this process that goes beyond the fixity and certainty of methods. It is evolutionary and progressive. I feel this is what is needed to move yoga forward into the future.
