The Hinds County School District family is deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Mary Killingsworth, a dedicated and faithful member of the Hinds County School District Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Killingsworth began her service with the Hinds County School District on April 13, 2023, and from the very beginning, she demonstrated a genuine commitment to the students, families, employees, and communities we serve. She approached her responsibilities with dedication, wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering desire to see the District move forward.

Throughout her service, Mrs. Killingsworth was more than a Board member; she was a faithful servant and advocate for public education. She understood the importance of providing our students with opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed, and she remained committed to supporting the mission and vision of the Hinds County School District.

Her connection to the Hinds County School District was also deeply personal. As a proud grandmother of grandchildren who currently attend our schools, Mrs. Killingsworth’s commitment to the District was rooted not only in her service on the Board, but also in her love for her family and her desire to help ensure a bright future for every HCSD Achiever.

Her service reflected the strength of her character and the depth of her dedication. She gave of herself willingly and faithfully, leaving an indelible mark on the District and on those who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Mrs. Killingsworth’s presence, leadership, and commitment will be deeply missed. While we mourn her passing, we are grateful for the time she shared with us and for the contributions she made throughout her service.

The Hinds County School District extends its heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Killingsworth’s family, loved ones, friends, and all those who were blessed to know and serve alongside her. We especially hold her grandchildren and family close in our thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of their beloved grandmother. We pray that they find comfort, peace, and strength during this difficult time.

Her legacy of service will continue to live on through the students, families, employees, and communities she so faithfully served.

Thank you, Mrs. Killingsworth, for your service, your faithfulness, and your unwavering commitment to the Hinds County School District. Your legacy will remain a part of the HCSD family.

What a day to F.L.E.X.! 💪🏾 Professional Development Day was filled with learning, collaboration, team spirit, and plenty of HCSD pride!

Our Transformation Teams, UBUNTU, KAIZEN, LUMEN, ÉLAN, and ARETÉ, showed up and showed OUT in their team colors, waving their flags, sharing their chants, and celebrating the values that make each team unique. The energy was contagious!

Then, it was time to learn. Our HCSD Professional Development F.L.E.X. Faculty stepped into the spotlight to share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues across the district. From instructional practices, customer service, special education, transportation safety and more, our professional achievers spent the day learning from one another and strengthening the work we do for students every day.

This is what happens when professional learning meets community, collaboration, and a little friendly team competition! ❤️🧡🖤💚💜 We laughed. We learned. We celebrated. We FLEXed: Focused Leadership, Learning and Literacy to Elevate eXcellence.

The vision is now reality! 🎓✨ Our inaugural Hinds² Early College Academy achievers have officially completed their first few days of college classes at Hinds Community College - Utica Campus.

Just a few months ago, we celebrated the signing of this historic partnership between Hinds County School District and Hinds Community College. Today, our students are walking the campus, attending classes and beginning an incredible journey that allows them to earn college credit while still in high school.

These photos represent so much more than a first day. They represent access, opportunity and a pathway forward. We are incredibly proud of our Hinds² achievers from Raymond High School and Terry High School as they begin this new chapter. This is what expanding possibilities for students looks like… and we’re only getting started!
