Hi Friends. The very good people at Turner's Warehouse in Gilbert Arizona are conducting a fundraiser for St. Judes Children's Hospital. Woodturners from all over the U.S. and maybe a few from outside the U.S. sent in hand turned Christmas Ornaments to be auctioned off. There are some stunning ornaments to bid on. The cream of the crop have already been bid up, but there are still plenty with no bids. Even if you choose not to bid on an ornament, they would be very happy if you shared this post. Take a look....there is some beautiful stuff here.

All set up and ready to go at Village Venture in Claremont.

So I thought I would dust off the cobwebs on this page and post something for a change. It has been quite a long time since I set up a table somewhere to sell some of my pens and things. I've had a few people suggest that I try to get a space at the Village Venture which is a juried craft and art event in Claremont, California. It has taken me a few years to get an application in, but I did and today I heard back that they accepted me. It is set for Saturday October 28 in Claremont Village. Between now and then, I'll be busy adding inventory, spiffing up displays and coming up with new things to make and sell. I'll post updates every now and then with pics of some of the new things I'll have. I hope to see many of you there that day. I've heard it is a huge event with lots of people and lots of vendors.

Here is a new one I made recently. This pen is made with quilted maple, a blue/green dyed box elder burl, bubinga and some white and black accent strips.

Here is the latest pen I've made. It was a custom order. The woods in the body are Claro Walnut, Maple burl, Cocobolo and maple and black dyed wood veneer.

Since I haven't shared anything in a while I thought I would post some pictures of three pens I made this weekend. I've been taking some small pieces of wood and making them into tiny pieces of wood and gluing them together to make some simple designs. I really love the Birdseye Maple in these.

A customer and dear friend asked me to make a special pen for her to give to her brother for Christmas. This is what I came up with for her. The metal components are designed by Penn State Industries; the cap is designed to resemble a 12 GA shotgun shell and the pen body is designed to resemble a .30 cal. bullet. The recipient is an avid bird hunter, so I had a special barrel cast with ringneck pheasant feathers and turned the cap out of African Blackwood to further resemble a 12 GA shell. I think it makes for a pretty nice looking pen. It also includes one of the nicest writing roller ball refills I have ever used. I would love to hear what people think of this one.

Here is another new pen made with solid surface counter top material. This is a twist pen, with a twist. Instead of twisting in the center, you twist the nib to extend the point.
