This may be controversial, but....
As a humane live bee removal specialist, I believe in honestly helping homeowners to understand ALL of the pros and cons to ALL of their decisions and allowing them to make the decision they are most comfortable with making.
That being said, recently, I have come across several pesticide companies saying that it is illegal in the state of California to kill honeybees. Although it is not best practice to kill honeybees for a variety of reasons (they are sentient organisms and it can cause structural damage), they are an invasive species, and it is not illegal. There is a difference between law and best practice.
In addition, as long as humane live bee removal specialists do not use any pesticides in accordance with CA State law, no pesticide license is required to remove honeybees. If conducting business activities, an applicable business license may be required.
Beekeepers know bees... that is their specialty.
