This was 2019. Our first hive. I had no business plan, a little experience, and no idea how hard it was going to get.
But I had her.
She believed in this before anyone else did. Before the first client. Before the first van. Before any of it made sense on paper. She just believed in me.
The stings, the setbacks, the 5am alarm clocks, the seasons that didn't go our way — she was there for all of it. Not because she had to be. Because that's who she is.
Today Buddha Bee has a team, a fleet, and hives across North Carolina. I get to wake up and do what I love every single day. And none of it would be possible without her by my side.

There are around 50,000 bees in a healthy hive. One of them is the queen.
She's longer than the workers, moves slower, and is always surrounded by bees facing toward her — that's the retinue. They feed her, groom her, and carry her pheromones through the entire colony.
Slide 1 has a hint — look for the blue dot. We mark our queens with paint so we can track their age without disturbing the hive. Blue = born in a year ending in 5 or 0.
Slide 2? The dot is still there. You're just going to have to work for it. 👀
Drop a 👑 if you found her.

We made a beer with . It's called HIVE. And it starts with our bees — right there at . 🍺🐝
has been that kind of community from the start — the kind that doesn't just welcome you in, they give your bees a home. We've had hives there for a while now, quietly doing their thing: pollinating, building, producing honey that belongs to that community in the most literal sense.
And then — one of the best breweries in the state, right there in that same place — took that honey and did something beautiful with it.
From our bees at Fenton... to Bhavana's tanks... to a can you can hold in your hand.
That's what small business community actually looks like. Not a networking event. Not a logo on a banner. It's showing up for each other, literally and practically, until something new comes to life that none of us could have made alone.
Bees have always known this. A hive doesn't work because one bee is exceptional. It works because 50,000 of them are committed to the same thing.
HIVE is out now at . Go get some — and know that the honey in your glass came from right there. 🐝

“Swarm was found, Owen was ready for action. 🐝 Watching this guy grow into the work has been one of the best parts of this season. Proud to have him on the team. ”

Spring doesn't announce itself. It just shows up — in the warmth of the morning air, the first flowers pushing through, and the quiet hum returning to the hive.
We've been out here all season. And now, so have the bees. 🐝
If hosting a hive has been on your mind, this is the moment. We handle everything — installation, inspections, harvests.
You just enjoy the magic (and the honey).

October gave us one of those quiet, meaningful reminders of why this work matters.
Honey produced from the hives we tend on behalf of .exchange.raleigh found its way into a beautifully crafted dessert and cocktail at .
From rooftop to restaurant.
From thousands of bees to a single bite.
From pollination to celebration.
Moments like this show what’s possible when businesses collaborate with intention.
Grateful for partners who believe in local ecosystems — and who let the bees be part of the story.

Our team traded hive tools for hedge clippers this week!
We had the chance to join Keep Durham Beautiful for a volunteer day in one of Durham’s local parks, where we rolled up our sleeves (and put on our toughest gloves) to help remove invasive plant species and restore native habitat.
It was a day full of teamwork, fresh air, and a whole lot of satisfying outdoor work — the kind that reminds you how connected everything in nature really is. Healthy parks mean healthier ecosystems, stronger pollinator environments, and more vibrant communities for all of us.
Nature: protected. Team: undefeated. 🌿💪🐝.

After months of planning, scouting, and big conversations about what’s next, we’re officially expanding Buddha Bee Apiary to the Queen City.
It’s been a mix of excitement, long drives, early mornings, loads of coffee, and a lot of learning along the way. This move feels like the natural next step — new backyards, new partnerships, and new opportunities to help communities connect with the environment in a hands-on way.
What started as a local idea in Raleigh has grown into something we’re deeply proud of, and that’s thanks to an incredible team who shows up every day with heart, grit, and humor. None of this would exist without them.
We’ve seen what happens when people get close to nature — when a few hives in a backyard can change how a family, business, or neighborhood thinks about the world around them. Charlotte, we can’t wait to share that energy with you.
Here’s to growth, good people, and meaningful work that keeps our cities (and their backyards) thriving.
